Valkyria Chronicles: Lions of the South

Whistling along to his own tune, Ezekiel Gosling looked out the passenger window of a truck that he'd just so happened to hitch a ride from. There was only one man that could possibly keep him company... and he seemed to rather keep his eye on the road ahead instead. Ezekiel could've sworn that much concentration wasn't necessary to drive from points A to B, but to each and his own, he guessed. After travelling a mile or two, the truck eventually came to a stop.

"This should be the place," the driver stated, taking a clipboard he'd set to the side with him and exiting out his own side of the truck.

"Hm? Should be?" queried Ezekiel as he turned to face the driver, only to note he was already gone, "Meh. I ain't coming out until I know for sure..."

With that, the young militia busied himself by continuing on with his previous whistling... until he heard the driver return and open the back of the truck in order to take stuff out of it. Taking this as his cue to get out, Ezekiel opened the door and slid off his seat, collecting the rifle that he had off to one side, slinging it over his shoulder and slamming the passenger door shut. He made his way forward and looked at the back of the truck out of curiosity, noting that the clipboard from earlier was just sitting there as the driver dropped off supplies a couple crates at a time.

'Alrighty then, let's see here...' curiosity getting the best of him, Ezekiel examined the clipboard whilst the driver was completing his supply run, the first thing he saw being the signature that could now be found on it.

'Harald, huh? No surname or anything? Hmm... ah, he must be one of them. Gotcha.' that noted, the young man scrolled his eyes upward a bit to see what kind of supply run this driver was supposed to be on; it may have looked ordinary to the untrained eye, but with Ezekiel's keen examination... "Wait, hold up. Private goods? What kind of chump does this guy have to...?"

"Morning Private!", another voice yelled over, interrupting the lad's private musing, "You're over here with us."

"Er, yeah, I... kinda gathered already," with that reply, Ezekiel put the clipboard back down where it was, and proceeded forth to meet the squad that he'd be serving under, "So this is Squad 4, eh? Interesting..."

He took the time to size each individual member of Squad 4 up and down, bearing an innocent smile across his face. He may have inadvertently paused at chest level each time he looked in one or two of the girls' direction, but he kept such pauses short and his overall gaze subtle. After all, there was a superior officer right there to his left that could suspect ogling of him if he wasn't careful.

"You guys seem like you could use a sniper on deck. Then again, that's probably the whole reason I'm here, innit? Oh right, I must remember my manners. Private Ezekiel Gosling, reporting for duty," performing the obligatory salute as he introduced himself, the sniper turned his attention to his superior officer, who he assumed must be the man named Harald, "So where're we headed, boss-man?"

After a total of three grueling train rides and another few hundred meters on foot, Etsu Izumo finally made it to Uchima Senior High. She'd woken up at about 8 o'clock that Saturday morning, though judging by the time each train took to get to their individual destinations and seeing that the school must've started session by now, maybe 7 would be a better time to wake and get going by. Not that she even had the school uniform on her. Instead, Etsu was wearing a simple grey T-shirt, a heavy leather jacket and blue denim jeans that day, as well as a pair of men's size 11 sneakers on her feet. Looking at her surroundings one last time and breathing a sigh of reluctance, Etsu ventured through the front gate, where she saw many students go about making their way to what she believed would be their classes. Incidentally it would turn out that they actually had their own club meetings to go to for their various activities, but there was no way Etsu would know that.

Paying little mind to the other students, Etsu took the time to explore the school grounds, supposing that the earlier she got used to them the better. It was clear that she had no idea where she going and that she'd gotten lost in the scenery but, deciding enough was enough, she opened the closest door she could find and entered the main building itself, intent on finding the faculty office that she was meant to get to this whole time. It was here that she found a lone boy walking up and down the halls. In her mind, either this guy was trying to skip class like Etsu did from time to time back at Fukushima, or he was one of those dreaded hallway monitors she would've had to avoid like the plague whenever she decided to give a certain class a miss. Either way, there was no sense avoiding him this time...

"Hey, um... excuse me," Etsu approached the boy as she said this, "I have an appointment with the faculty today, at about... 9:30, I think it was? Maybe 9:25 or something? Anyway, I need directions to their office, please. I've been looking all over the place for it..."

Boxer: Although still an amateur boxer for the most part, Etsu's technique shows promise, and she improves on it every day. Her quick jabs are well polished, but she has a tendency to telegraph her big swings.
Strong-Woman: Unsurprisingly, Etsu has plenty of muscle to her form; enough so that she could pick up even the heaviest of boys and throw them a foot or two away from her if need be. As such, it'd be wise to keep one's hormones in check when around Etsu and keep all hands to oneself, lest teeth get knocked out by one of her powerful swings.

Personality

While she may look to be intimidating on the surface through her muscular build and her sheer height over the overage woman, Etsu's warm personality actually alleviates all sense of nervousness that could otherwise by presented around her. She is a nice gal who just wants to have fun, make friends and try her best to keep her grades up so then she has a future to look forward to. Unfortunately, maintaining passable grades has always been a hard task for Etsu since, compared to many other students, her level of intellect is somewhat mediocre at best. That's not to say that she's a complete dumbass; after all, she wouldn't have survived in a high school setting if that were the case. It's more that Etsu isn't a standout in that department over other third-year students, and there are current second-years that have been known to outsmart her on occasion. She doesn't mind though, unless they're the type that'd rub it in others' faces.

In any case, Etsu is currently going through depression. She has yet to be officially diagnosed as such, but the symptoms are definitely there. She sometimes spaces out in classes, especially when a teacher is trying to teach something that would fly right over her head anyway, and when she does, the first thing that will be on her mind without fail is what the purpose to her life is. Having to work at two dead-end jobs after school each day doesn't help matters at all; in truth, between those jobs, all the homework that Etsu has to do and returning to a mother that she has to look after due to... an unfortunate situation indeed, it only compounds the sheer amount of stress that Etsu ultimately has to power through. Thankfully there are a few little things that help ensure that Etsu doesn't crack under the pressure, the most notable of which is being around happy people. Incidentally, any sentient being that expresses some form of happiness is enough for Etsu to stave off the effects of depression. Hence why she has 3 cats that she takes care of as well.

Biography:

Etsu Izumo grew up relatively normally at first. Her mother, Dai Izumo, was an accountant working for a well-known business in the heart of Fukushima, and her father, Lt. Kenzaburo Izumo, served the country of Japan through the military. This unfortunately meant that Kenzaburo would have to spend months at a time away from the family, leaving Etsu, her younger sister Enri and her older brother Ryobe to be looked after by Dai for most of their lives. Of course, Dai managed to cope with this and taught the three children right, and they lived happily ever after. Well... at least for the first 10 years of Etsu's life, anyway. Incidentally, just as Ryobe was about to start high school, disaster struck in the form of an earthquake that struck Fukushima, having originated a few miles away from Japan. The earthquake caused heavy damage to the city and claimed many lives. Most of the Izumo family escaped major incident, with Ryobe being unharmed and Etsu and Enri only suffering minor cuts from glass that had shattered around. But Dai wasn't so lucky; her place of work was one of the buildings that had been the hardest hit by the earthquake, and she was crushed under the rubble. She was the last person to be rescued out of those that survived the collapse of that specific building, and all four of her limbs had to be amputated.

Another earthquake struck Fukushima 5 years later and, although it was reported to have only inflicted minor damage to the city itself, it was enough to snap the Izumo family into action. Enri, being scared to death, hung tightly to Ryobe and wouldn't let go, and Ryobe suggested they move to the west so they'd be more inland. But Dai insisted on booking the next flight south instead, and Etsu was stuck in the middle, not wanting anything to do with the debate that had ensued, and having stormed out into her room crying soon after it began. She would soon regret that decision when it was decided that Ryobe and Dai would go their separate ways, as she never even got to say goodbye to Ryobe and Enri. Nonetheless, Etsu went along with Dai's initial plan of heading south, Dai having already proceeded to book the flight ahead of time. It turned out that Dai had this plan organized to a T, as she also knew exactly where the two would be staying.

Dai had bought a house in the residential area of a quaint suburb of Shikatsu, with the closest high school that Etsu could transfer to being Uchima Senior High. Etsu was evidently not looking forward to going to a new school at all; after all, who in their right mind would purposely swap schools in their third year? Not to mention that she'd have to catch a total of three different trains in order to even get there, and if she even missed one of them, she'd be late for school no matter what way one looked at it. But reluctantly, Etsu set to getting enrolled. She also secured herself a job at the local convenience store while she was out in order to help support herself and Dai... and another job serving Chinese takeouts to customers just to be safe. Whether it'd be enough, she didn't know. She could only hope her one year at Uchima Senior High wouldn't be a nightmare. It would be the last thing Etsu needed, considering she already felt depressed as it was...

Could I not make it a block instead? Or make one of the other resists a block, repel or something? I noticed you accepted reflects on other chars' Personae, and I've made UP characters before and have regretted it. Not to say that 3 resists and 2 weaknesses is bad, per se, but it's not something I'd consider outstanding either. Though if you insist, I'll roll with it I guess.

I might just outright cut Diarama though. Media outclasses Dia completely, and I'd rather not run an obsolete spell if I can avoid it :/

@Crimmy Now that you mention it, I'd been meaning to add a resistance or an immunity or something to Bless/Expel, but have no idea which I'd wanna replace for it. So far the Persona I'm using (which'll be Demeter in case you're curious) reflects Slash and is strong against Strike, Pierce and Gun, but weak against Nuclear and Curse. I might have to take two resistances out in exchange for the Bless/Expel, which I'm perfectly willing to do. But yeah, that's the dilemma I have right now, and some input would be nice :/
