Progress is a comfortable disease: your victim (death and life safely beyond)" --- Name: Silas Albert Eberhardt Appearance: Being considered a nerd means nothing for your physique if you somehow find the time outside of whatever studies you preoccupy yourself with to at least attempt to, as some say, 'get cut' or... or was it ripped? Regardless, Silas is as fit as he is a complete and utter nerd. Neither are bad at all, especially with how he tends to present himself. As for how fit he is, it's more of a way to keep oneself healthy, than it is to condition oneself for a sport. He is of a toned, healthy build and of average height, 5'10", and weighs a close 167 lbs. Of a more classy style, though, his body is often hidden beneath layers of suit pieces that adorn his body; he fills them out well and displays the classy style in a suave manner, almost as if he personifies the adjective. Though Silas acts anything but classy, he puts on a good show of looking the part and with his soft complexion and often well-styled, medium length, sandy blonde hair often aid in giving him that sophisticated look he always desires. Of course, outside a suit and in regular clothing, he's more tame, though he still retains the elegant style of the former. It's in the way he walks, the way he carries himself, and often the look in his eyes. Silas has a knack for looking a bit stand-offish, with an almost nervous, almost disgusted expression perpetually on his features—as if he can't make hide or hair of the situations he's put in. There is a subtle confidence there, but mostly in his skills rather than practically anything else. He knows what he's good at and it's obvious he sticks to his guns, even from the simple look on his face. There is a place for everyone. Most of this is often denoted in the rigid way he moves or stands; there's a sense that he's almost always out of place, aside from certain situations. There are only a few moments and few places in which he feels completely there and the change is drastic. Confidence and pride exudes from his body like gold from a font. His light blue, almost grey eyes that are often clouded over in distant discomfort, shine brilliantly in the light and leave absolutely no room for humility. The way he moves, the way he talks presents a man who knows where he's meant to be and is surer of his talents than a mother is of her own child. The meek voice that's rarely ever heard becomes booming and projects in a way only heard of in those rare moments. People pay to see him like this because they know this is Silas at his best and Silas at his best never disappoints. --- "plays with the bigness of his littleness --- electrons deify one razorblade into a mountainrange; lenses extend" --- Age: 18 (Born August, 26th, 1996; Forced to start kindergarten late) Grade: Junior Social Class: Gifted Social Class Explanation: A virtuoso through and through, Silas is a many of many talents, but only one that is truly deserving of attention. His prowess in playing instruments and composing pieces of music is unmatched at Caelbury, though there are but one instrument in which he truly outranks his peers in sheer skill—forget the years of experience. Caelbury allowed him in on the premise that he further grow his talents for the violin, for composing, for anything instrumental. Silas would be no where if not for his innate ability to play the instrument, surpassing his peers and even those on the pro level, composing music themselves at ripe ages; Silas can only further grow, though, whereas they've already spent their life becoming what they dreamed of. Silas is already at what was deemed their apex, but far from his own. --- "unwish through curving wherewhen till unwish returns on its unself. A world of made is not a world of born --- pity poor flesh" --- Personality: The epitome of a nerd, with two sides to his personality. Better suited to classes in astrophysics or calculus, Silas is your resident human-wikipedia for all things comics, movies, video games, musical pieces, and so much more. It's why he feels so out of place all the time; Caelbury is pretty much snob central and no one has time for his should be spectacled, acne coated, geek ass. Of course, he's got none of those things, but the geek part hit the nail on the head—that fact stops nobody. And it gives him all the more reason to spend time alone, where he's most comfortable if not on stage, doing the things he loves to do without much bother. People are fickle creatures to him, who are better observed from a distance rather than actively interacted with, at least for his kind. It's easier to find those who know more and who are obviously higher tiered in intellect outside of places like Caelbury—pretty much the entirety of the world. Of course, he's not going to aspire himself to be Steve Jobs or Bill Gates because he has no engineering talents, or skills in technology, or mathematics, or science even; he's got his place and he's proud of that fact. But, that never stops him from trying his hardest in school, mainly because it's his gateway to getting out of there and into the world. High school, for some nerds, is practically hell. But Caelbury is hell to anyone without money or power and that's just a small percentage of the people that attend. So, Silas is distant for good reason, cold for an even better reason, and silent for the best reason. Accustomed to not really talking, Silas finds himself mostly introverted and concerned with himself more than anything else. Not that he's at all self-centered—quite the opposite, actually. He's only ever concerned with himself because he often finds that's the only person that will allow it and will be concerned for him. Not many people pity the boy and if they do, they don't say anything about it, despite all that wishing upon a star crap. So, people label him as meek and quite and it's not necessarily wrong, but better words would be suppressed and isolated. He's not a talker and he's not a man who often takes action, but only out of necessity and only because he's not often able to. Better to save yourself, rather than condemn more people, right? Maybe. It might be a slightly flawed concept, but SIlas isn't quite ready to reprimand himself and repair just yet. Not until all the high school stuff is done and over his head and he actually has the power to do something. He's cautious and hidden inside his fortified shell, which brings up more complications for himself than anything else. But at least he can deal with the problems in the privacy of his own room (minus roommate). He likes to solve things quick and fast before they become an issue, aside from those that can't be helped, like the whole Caelbury incident—he's solving it as quickly as he can. That's the cold, distant, very self-oriented Silas. A very independent, do it yourself type of person who happens to have a penchant in all things nerdy. Then there's the stage version. The one that glows in the brilliance of his own talents. The one who practically oozes confidence and sucks it back in at the same time—an infinite supply of conviction in his skills and assets. Give him a violin and an audience and he immediately becomes a different person, almost charming, but above else a very classy man whose skills are hard to match. He's talkative because he knows where he is and he knows anyone who dares try to deny his talents are either a very talented critic or a just a jealous individual. Even if you don't like his music or him, there's no denying that he's got a distinct talent. But you can't really notice the brilliance in the way he that does, though that doesn't matter. What matters is the fact that he's able to do it in the first place. On a stage, with a bow and a violin in hand, suited up all formal and snazzy, brilliant, glaringly white smile, an effervescent glow to his skin, lights baring their heat down upon him, and an audience enthralled by the music he composed, the waves of sound that practically melt in the air—that is home and that is where his heart belongs. This is where people are undeniably astounded by him, where they don't remember that distant kid for just that moment of bliss, and find themselves looking at something they simply can't comprehend. Silas isn't astounding in any other aspect. His personality isn't something to be ashamed of, but nothing to be proud of either. He's swayed by the wiles of his libido as much as any other person, or by the greed that rolls off the tongue of talented salespeople. He's got anger issues like the rest of him. He gets upset and depressed—anxious above all else. He's cold and distant, cares more about his well-being than most else, though he isn't heartless. He's swayed more by logic than he is his feelings. But when he gets on stage, none of that matters. Human error and the human condition mean absolutely nothing to him and they no longer play a part in his music, in his life during those moments. Silas knows where his place is and it's not interacting with people or climbing a social ladder; it's on a stage with that bow in one hand and the violin in the other. --- "and trees, poor stars and stones, but never this fine specimen of hypermagical ultraomnipotence. We doctors know" --- History: The virtuoso, like many of his kind, started at the very ripe age of about 4 years old. Born to a middle-class pair of mothers in the Bronx of New York City, New York, Silas' life was absolutely normal until he turned the age of four. The discovery of his talents came because of a little baby grand piano situated in the living room of his family's house, a rather small estate with that one item pretty much totally 80% of its networth. It was passed down many generations, but never really used, though it was tuned and taken care of as much as possible. That thing was old, but in the right hands it could play with the best of them. And the right hands were currently playing them, no sheet music necessary. Mozart: Piano Sonata Number 11, in A Major. It was on the various tracks his mother's played for him when he was especially young and it stuck. It was his favorite by all means and it was shown in gusto at the age of four. His babysitter at the time completely freaked out. She was screaming hysterically by the time she found out it was actually him playing it and not some weird recording or whatever she thought, at first. That was also the time his mothers had come home to find the babysitter in hysterics above a still very focused young toddler. That's pretty much the end of the story there because it's obvious where that lead to. She wasn't fired, but she understood why they docked her pay a bit that night. From there it ran pretty typically, where he began further lessons for the piano at that young age. Though, it was during his sixth birthday that he'd decided he was tired of the contraption and wanted something new, but didn't quite know what. On a peruse around a few thrifty and inexpensive shops that sold instruments, they fell upon his actual knack to play music in general, but only really found his dream when he stood completely still in front of a rack of the finest violins. The man had come up to him and jested that if he could play one song perfectly on the contraption, then he could have it for free. Of course, he didn't quite expect the kid to pick one up and play for him right then and there. His parents quite understood that their child had just unknowingly hustled the man and they were satisfied when he allowed them to buy it for half price. But, Silas grew up then, going typically in and out of his childhood like a housefly and a window. One thing staid through his maturity: his violin. He loved that thing to death and back again—would play it in the wee hours of the morning. It would have become a hassle if hadn't the penchant for playing particularly sweet sounding, sleep inducing music when it was lights out for most of the apartment. Regardless, he smoothed into middle school with particular ease, though it became a bit of a hassle when he began exploring the obvious things kids through puberty explore. Subjects and topic in which they fancied. This meaning, Silas found a place in all of his virtuoso talent in the middle of nerdom. Oh, he loved MIB and Star Wars to death, loved playing tabletop games on the weekends, or watching cartoons and shows, and reading various comics when he could. All while continuing his practice. This wasn't an issue for his parents, not at all. But there did come an issue and that was money. It was impractical to keep a boy with that much talent out of the spotlight and stuck in the rustic part of town with now way to spread his wings, so to speak. So, when he just got around to finding his niche in school, among pleasant, like-minded folks, his parents dragged him out and placed him too far away from his old life than he liked. But, it was definitely for the better. He began Caelbury his freshman year and was a shoe in to be accepted; no one passed up talent like that. But it restricted his growth in anything but his talents. It kept him from becoming who he wanted to be, whilst still retaining that talent he'd build upon and ride to the end of his days. Caelbury was less accommodating, with even less amicable people. He went through phases of bullying and abuse like a pair of cheap sunglasses and it pushed him further into his shell, made him more introverted than he intended. It came to the point where he only really trusted himself. On top of that, he only found time for himself. It continued like that until his senior year, where he officially distanced himself from the majority of people for enough time that they finally got the hint. He was only really appreciated on stage where he could properly display his talents or out in campus doing the occasional busking. Though, in the privacy of his own room, where he kept to himself when his roommate was out, he let that other side of himself kind of flourish in its own sense. Extracurricular Activities: Student Council - Vice President Drama Board - Composer (Occasionally Music Writer) and a part of its orchestra Orchestra - President and Member LGBT Board - Officer Miscellaneous: —His handle for twitter is @mykingdom_foraviolin --- "a hopeless case if --- listen: there's a hell of a good universe next door; let's go" — E. It's never about hitting the right note at the exact time and at the right pitch, or finding that key change, it's about the art of it, the passion. Believe me when I say that when I fall flat or sharp on a note, it doesn't make my performance any worse, it makes my performance my own. Own your flaws and people will forget they were ever flaws in the first place." No one is as inexplicably out of reach as Acacia Hawthorne. Despite her always friendly, always subconsciously sanctimonious attitude, and fabulous hair, she couldn't be farther up the social ladder if she wanted to and that meant a lot of people get crushed under her feet. If one were to tell this now, they'd get an audible gasp and she'd likely go around trying to change that. She's Rapunzel. Everyone sees it, but they don't say anything about it because she's too sweet and innocent. To be trapped in an ivory tower must be very hard to come to terms with and it must be eating her insides. But, Silas isn't one to make assumption and he isn't one to voice his opinions. Of course, he doesn't know the depths of her misery, but he realizes there is something there. No one's optimistic all the time. Humans need to feel sadness to ground themselves to reality and not the kind of sadness you feel for a hurt puppy, but for oneself. It's one thing to pity yourself and it's another to give that emotional turmoil an outlet. Silas knows all too well the ideology of being alone among a crowd. He doesn't know her or pretend to know her and, to be honest, doesn't really want to know her. Someone who has the potential to be tragic isn't someone Silas wants to deal with, but it's more so that she's a fleeting person and many of the higher-ups around her scoff at the idea of anyone not from money or fame talking with the biggest hit in Caelbury. Of course, she's amicable and friendly and does her best to treat everyone equally, but her goal doesn't seem to be making friends, but rather getting through high school with her sanity. Isn't that everyone's goal in high school? --- Jacob Rockwell "When you fall on your face, when the world is out to get you, when there are nothing but misfortunes at your doorstep, there are a few things that everyone should learn to do: get back up, laugh, and most of all find their music." Again, Silas doesn't like to be all that close to people or really talk to them for too long a period of time. Jacob himself seems a bit guarded and Silas isn't one to press matters further than simply being acquaintances. They're on good terms with each other, but they don't have all that much in common besides video games. Jacob is going one way and Silas is off on a completely different planet, though they could still be friends, it'd be nothing more than a tentative friendship. But, the respect he has for Jacob is higher than a lot of people can say. There is something of about how Jacob acts from time to time, as if he's ashamed of something, but Silas hates getting into other people's business and so he minds his own. They'll help each other out (a favor for a favor), respect each other's abilities, and will chat occasionally, but if anything hints at going any deeper into their emotional and mental caverns, then they both tend to shut down. --- Julie Scott "There's a giant gap in wealth and social standing for a reason, and until that's fixed, then I don't understand the need to wish for fame and fortune." What's the use of trying to be in the in crowd when the in crowd requires you to have a well established family fund and already be among the highest echelons of society? Most of the wealthy inhabitants of Caelbury feel like their more than a person and it's evident that a lot of them have this urge to treat those lower than them as pets to fawn over. If anyone so much as utters, 'Awww' at him, like he's some kind of puppy, he'd have no problem punching them out. Money doesn't make a person and Silas wholeheartedly agrees with that, especially with what he's been exposed to during his 3 years at Caelbury. There is a lot of stupidity and a lot of bigoted hate around certain groups of people, so it's a wonder that Julie doesn't understand something like that better, seeing as she attempts to surround herself with said people. He spotted her working once at a coffee shop, though he left the moment he saw her. They're on good terms, and Julie talks to him as much as possible, which is a bit off-putting to Silas, so to spot her there would probably end very badly for the both of them. Her naivety about the people around her should have sent Silas running for the hills, but he can't help but feel a bit of sympathy. Who wouldn't want to be in the in crowd? To be popular. He's watched Mean Girls before; he understands how good it feels when people look at you and only you, and not for any reason but how great you are at something. Something like that. But, he prefers to work for others and, as an entertainer, he plays for the audience's joy, not himself. He takes criticism from his peers kindly and hopes that Julie is able to do the same when someone approaches her about her need to make certain kinds of friends. Though, she doesn't seem to have too bad a taste for some people; if anyone would have any luck with Wren or Acacia, it'd probably be Julie and when that happens, he'll be happy for her. She proved him wrong --- Max Wallenberg "A man of wealth who mingles with those supposedly lower than him is either running a charity or is simply bored." Silas isn't one for talking and neither is Max. They have a mutual agreement not to bother the other and that's worked out perfectly or quite some time. However, Silas doesn't and will never approve of Max's current standing in his own social circle. He seems to have migrated to the lower class in order to escape the woes of the wealthy, and only as a kind of sadistic vacation. That's how Silas sees it, though he isn't one to voice his opinion regardless of the situation. Many misinterpret that as loathing, but it's more of a scoff worthy disappointment. He doesn't hate Max, just doesn't approve of what he's currently doing, especially with some of the women, though he's somehow settled down with an unexpected choice for his tastes and recent escapades. --- Wren Sinclair "Life's too short to ruin your childhood." A gal that's way too busy working to notice her life going by; Silas likes to call her, "Jodie Foster 2.0". He's definitely one to talk, seeing as he often works away at his music, but he makes sure there's always a day or two to enjoy life. He'd prefer to enjoy it with someone as like minded as he, but Caelbury makes it rather difficult to indulge in the less finer things in life. However, Wren has a kind of duality to her: she's one of the biggest names in Hollywood with so many things at her disposal, yet she'd rather sit down in front of a giant flat screen playing Halo 4. Of course, when she's got any free time, and from Silas' view, that's all very limited. She just seems so intent on getting from point A to Z whilst stopping at every individual letter in a number of mini-goals. Life is way too hard to drown oneself in work and, despite loving her work, she seems to be overworking herself in the process. Even when one loves their work as both they do, it's hard to notice anything else. All that beauty in life is there for a reason and there is always time to unwind and treat yourself. Exhausting yourself with the work you love is wonderful, and there's that spark in her eyes that's so painfully obvious when she performs, but it dulls when your bones are aching and your muscles are stiff. All you can do at that point is fall down and forget that you'd made plans to stop and smell the flowers. --- Eliza Herring "Play's that 'daddy's girl has some daddy issues' stereotype really hard. But, she's too smart to be that shallow." There's no one you quite want to either adore relentlessly or avoid completely than Eliza Herring. She's got a veil around her that draws people in, almost a mix between diva and ditz, but always exuding that, 'I'm too good for you' kind of a vibe. Neither diva nor ditz begins to describe her, though, and Silas knows it, but she doesn't willingly put on the facade, it just seems to come forth and it's a wonderful way to completely close oneself off to a certain few people, that being Acacia, Wren, and maybe a few others. But, Silas does his best to avoid her because he's more than once noticed a certain glint in her eyes, like she's on some kind of mission and not a very good one, at that. Probably excuses it as a, 'I've got daddy issues' though she seems more like a daddy's girl than anything; but there's always something more to Eliza that she hides rather well, either out of necessity or a love for privacy. Silas is just waiting for that moment where she's ready to blow. --- Alena Rurik "I like how any rumor of her using steroids is always shot down on the account that she's just way too nice. Stepford Smiler number two?" There are so many stereotypes that Alena fulfills that her presence alone causes Silas' gaydar to go haywire. Whether that's a stereotype as well, is up for debate. But, it's just a roaming suspicion and isn't something Silas is willing to bet on. Outing someone is the biggest douchebaggery you could do to a person still in the closet. There's a tentativeness to their interactions, but Silas doesn't acknowledge it much because they interact so little. It's not that Alena could probably rip him in half or have her way with him, even though he's willing to assume she wouldn't dare, but her extreme friendliness and aptitude to chat and be amicable rubs him the wrong way. It's most definitely nothing, but like Acacia, he doesn't necessarily trust overly optimistic and bright individuals. Not with his feelings and certainly not their own. People who smile the brightest have the most to hide, whether that something is bad or not, is totally up to that person. With Alena, it doesn't seem at all bad, or anything bad in the slightest, but there's something beneath that smile of hers. --- Alex Harrowling "Unassuming. It's a shame when your number one talent is finding dirt on people. But hey, Perez Hilton is famous for nothing, so why not?" Someone who gossips for a living doesn't hold a favorable spot in Silas' book, whether that matters or not is totally up to them to decide. It probably doesn't matter to Jack, but Silas still doesn't respect him or give him any credit that he supposedly deserves. There's a special place in the pit of hatred in the back of his mind for people who do nothing but talk dirty and expect the world to praise them. So, of course he calls Jack the Perez of Caelbury, even if only to himself. He keeps away from him and is generally very un-opinionated when discussions veer his way or he brings up a discussion directed at him. Silas is known for being standoffish, so nothing seems out of the ordinary or new and Jack generally leaves him alone; there's no money in bringing down people who haven't known the notion of the media or wealth. And Silas has only gotten the reception of an artist and an artist's downfall is usually suicide sans movie stars and singers. --- Connor MacQuarrie "Some people I just don't care to understand. Some people are just difficult to understand. And some people are both. It gets complicated." Connor, to Silas, is like a mix between a raging hormonal meatheaded jock and a philosopher. Like... you have to go over what he says more than once, otherwise all you'll hear is, "Drugs, steroids, party, pussy," and forget that there was actually substance to what he's saying. It's both confusing and detrimental to one's health, especially since the way he talks is so goddamn contagious. However, and luckily for Silas, he's the quiet type, so Connor's slang only purveys through the way he speaks in his mind, which is equally frustrating, but lacks the embarrassment. There's also something about Connor that slightly forces you to like him, or at least hate him a little less because the kid's brighter than a lot of people who act and talk like him, but he's still so goddamn annoying that it's easy to forget that Connor's still a human being, with issues and thoughts like everyone else. Actually, it's amazing how easy to forget that part. It's a good way to calm oneself down when accosted by his loud and obnoxiousness; breathe in and breathe out, remember that he's a person too and it'll all be fine. Not to mention it's aggravating how well he holds his alcohol and how well he deals with it in the morning. And it's also aggravating how he seems to stay up all night and have the nerve to get up at the same damn time every morning, do his exercise routine, and scream whatever song he's playing whilst cooking. And it's aggravating how much eye candy he tends to be, yet infuriating how he has the decency to fling around his package like some goddamn Italian gigolo. And—suffice to say, there are a lot of aggravating things about Connor, but there's just this vibe he exudes that makes him loveable at the same time—the irony of actually liking him, despite wanting to rip his throat out. That... that is the most infuriating and most complex thing about knowing Connor. --- Silas Aberhardt "Music is life.
