Yeah, I definitely need to give him the opportunity to recruit some help from the miners or other townsfolk if there's going to be any combat involved (which I'd like there to be some). 

Hmmm... I kind of like the idea of the engineer's family being in trouble. The PC has a little bit of money, but if the engineer owes him a favor, it would save his meager funds.
