A -Punk genre? Airplanes? Piracy? Political intrigue and war? AND maybe magic? I can't help that all it needs is the kitchen sink.
I know, right!
Color me interested. Of your options, #2 catches my eye, but in general it sounds like you have a neat little world you're developing here, so I'm up for any storyline that lets us play around in it.
I think option #2 can be tweaked a bit. I'm thinking of focusing on one, centralized location, such as a city-state or something, that within resides political intrigue and violence and stuff. Not sure about the magic, still deciding.
How does one physics a steam-powered aircraft?
It's not completely steampunk. I lied. I apologize. Here's the description of technology in this world from the last RP (SUBJECT TO CHANGES) TECHNOLOGY
Technology in Adam is most basically subscribed to our version of WWI and some WWII models of transportation and weapons. The steam punk only comes into play for some elements of the story, most of the energy gained from the world is through air turbines, that when turned produce energy. This technology was first pioneered by the people of ----- and was after taken and used by other countries as time went on. Fossil fuels are used, otherwise, to provide lift to planes and to help power the auxiliary units on gunships. Though fossil fuels are sparse so weak and poor economic centers, like ------- and -------, lack a complete and traditional air force, but make up by having strong and powerful land forces. There are trains and horses that help travel within nations. In The Cloudwall small zeppelin-like vehicles taxi and carry people from one place to another. Weapons include anything from the musket rifle, to the semi-automatic pistol and rifle and small sub-machine guns. Also, technological advances have allowed for steam-powered gauss weapons and power weapons, which are essentially electrically ran weapons that cause devastating damage to whatever they are used on. So far gauss weapons are only outfitted on people, and are range-to-range weapons, though are not entirely reliable. Missiles and rockets are used in very finite quantity, and instead bombs and armor piercing bullets are used to take down personnel or other aircraft. Gunships and the like, that cannot be penetrated by small arms, must instead be boarded and conquered or fired upon by other gunships, which use large and powerful cannons to deal damage (rail guns, maybe?) Elevators are common and so are radios and radio systems. There are no televisions and cameras are outdated and barely beginning to catch on, though are coming at a very quick rate. Gunships fly using a multitude of massive rudders, propellers, and massive helium filled sacks beneath their impenetrable armor, as well as other similar mechanics. They move incredibly slow though, and can take months to travel from one place to another.
