supplies: A coil of rope, a lantern, and an ordinary wooden pendant from his sister (it’s only a memento, it does nothing). 

familial back story: Stefan’s family was fairly well off when he was a child. They were not notably wealthy, but they had enough to survive, so they were fairly happy. His sister has some chronic health issues, unfortunately, so Stefan has been trying to help search for ways to help her since he was very young. He chose to take the test to survive the fog, hoping that if he became a knight, he would be able to send home enough money to help care for his sister. He has always had a fascination with magic. 

I probably could have done better with the backstory, but at least it's something.
