Kijani blinked in surprise. "Wha- me?!" But Anthony was gone, leaving she and Ben alone. She turned to him, frowning slightly. "Ben... when was the last time you had a real fight? I mean, street thugs? Honestly, I don't care if there were nine or ninety. I'm pretty sure you're both competent enough and powerful enough to handle a real opponent." A faint smile graced her features. "It will be a testament to your skill. The thing about people like Anthony... and me as well, is that we're incredibly picky. We will only choose the best. Anything less is unacceptable. The fact that you're here at all means that you are the best." She leaned close enough to press her cheek against Ben's, whispering in his ear. "If things go south and Anthony tells you to clean up, don't be fooled. He doesn't place anyone's life above his own. Be smart. I know you are." She gently kissed his cheek, as if that was what she meant to do anyway.
