One of two options. the first is that the arcade machine you're in creates an exact replica of your face and body type and puts you in a futuristic looking spacesuit (you can customize the color and certain features of it). your senses are transfered into the game so in the actual machine you're lying dormant. The other option is that your avatar never leaves the cockpit so it doesn't need to generate anything besides a hologram suit around your body. The viewscreen of the arcade machine you're in shows a completely realistic view of the game and the game controls are played on the machine in real life like an actual cockpit. You can see each others faces due to video cameras like a voice chat.
