No. It really doesn't. Even ignoring the actual lack of results, your own beliefs don't allow it to work. He's praying about an interpersonal issue. The only way a response could be helpful to him is if free will is taken away from his dad to some degree. Which you claim god won't do (even though he did it in the bible). Plus, unless you believe in patron saints, you're literally asking god to solve your problem over all of the others he could be solving yet doesn't. 

For once in your life, try getting up and DOING something instead of wasting your time praying for an out that doesn't hurt anyone, because those don't exist.
