A battle against Darkseid seems like as good a reason as any to bring the League together originally. The only thing I'd really change about your Aquaman bio is the idea of the "big seven" because those guys aren't necessarily the founding members of the League in our case. The League has also faced off against some of their classic villains like Despero, Vandal Savage and my personal favorite, Starro the Conqueror. And no, Superman has never encountered Brainiac before. Part of the story will involve him learning the fate of Kandor from Jor-El.
