It's just a thought, but I find that my inner voice has a degree of clarity, and my quality is better when I've had a little something. Not a lot, because then I get incoherent, but enough to relax me and let the mind flow a bit. I'm hardly alone; Ernest Hemingway certainly was a 'glass in hand' writer, though it overcame him eventually. Hunter S. Thompson, by all accounts, also liked to imbibe and write.
