Arla's brown eyes followed Cor's movements, noting many of the small things that he did though she didn't quite grasp the reasons for them. Pulling back on controls caused the metal bird to fly upwards, pushing forwards made it dive. Then Cor pushed forwards on the controls with abandon and the metal bird dropped so fast that she was pressed back into her seat. Seeing the canyon walls so close to the window, the rippling uneven wall moving by so fast that it seemed like a unbroken sheet of red and brown. Despite herself, Arla found she was curling up in the co-pilot's seat, almost as if she expected that they were going to plow into the ground.
