He gets around quickly enough by bike, but is prone to slacking off on the job. When found lounging at a bar or bakery, his go-to excuse is "hey, it's a small town." If he finds himself with a dearth of mail and an abundance of time, it's common to see him flitter from place to place. Home: Lives alone at the heart of Harmonica Town. APPEARANCE: Dakota is distinctively androgynous. He has short, black hair that frames his face, and can be considered pretty. He's tall at 5'9, and has a lithe but lanky figure. His usual work outfit consists of a long sleeved button up, and skinny jeans. Sometimes, if he hasn't washed his uniform, he wears whatever is clean. PERSONALITY: Dakota is very easy going and enjoys interacting with people from all walks of life. Although not loud or rambunctious, he has a quick wit. A huge part of who he is, is his proclivity to go with the flow. He lets life lead him rather than the other way around, and does not have much ambition. His lack of drive has made the people around him try to change him, but he's learned to pretend to have dreams in order to satisfy them. He's content where he is, and is happy to be able to talk to good people everyday. The big cities are much more impersonal, and he thrives on empathetic and meaningful connections. He hates small talk, and gets people to warm up to him pretty quickly. He's very receptive to conflict and tries to avoid any sort whenever he can, but when it involves the people he cares about, it's a different story. At first glance, Dakota can be seen as a pushover, but he has very strong convictions about who he is and what he likes. He doesn't worry too much about how people perceive him, which can lead him to wear pajamas to work on some days. He is never at risk of getting fired because the town is so small, and there is no one else willing to work full time. He interacts fine with animals, but has never had any pets. He tries his best never to be alone, and likes to go on strolls away from the stifling silence of his room. His hobbies include socializing, reading, and cooking. (I plan on fleshing him out a lot more) HISTORY: Dakota was born into a high middle-class family who could afford to live in the suburbs, located near top public schools. His parents were not very understanding and often pushed him to do well in school even at the risk of compromising his emotional health. He first observed this phenomenon in his older sister, who often clashed with their parents' ideals in a blaze of passion. The increasing pressure to do well in an educational and eventually professional environment made him more withdrawn, but he was prevented from becoming a recluse with the help of his sister. They were nearly inseparable when they were children, and while he admired her headstrong personality, he did not adopt the same demeanor. When she moved away to college, Dakota made the conscious decision to do the same. He did well enough in school for his parents to leave him alone, but had no intention of becoming a doctor or engineer. By then, he had built up a defense against his parent's constant nagging, but was still hurt by their disappointment. He didn't care too much about discovering his passion, like his sister, and breezed through high school with top marks to the delight of his parents. To this day, they remain cordial, but ultimately impersonal. He attended an average 4 year college in a small city that was known for it's computer science program to accommodate the parents, but later secretly switched his major to anthropology. It was these four years of college that were completely transformative. Although a little late, he became more socially adept and met people he truly enjoyed being with. Combined with the subject of his major, he became incredibly appreciative of human beings and the bonds he could forge with them, which was impressive due to his stunted relationships in the past. Dakota decided to move to Harmonica city after researching areas that fit his criteria: small, personal, and far away from his parents. He snagged the job as a part time mail carrier in order to sustain himself while he searched for a career, but later moved to full time. Currently, it does not appear as if he is changing jobs anytime soon. LIKES: * Sweets * Fresh air * People * The smell of fruit (mmm….apples..) * Small animals DISLIKES: * Conflict * Being alone * Authority * Reptiles * Formal Institutions FAMILY: Dakota has is the youngest child with one older sister (30). She is a successful lawyer in a large city, and cares deeply for him, but has an intense dislike for their parents.
