Name Deitrich Bern Age 34 Sex Male Nationality/Homeland Born in the Kingdom of Albany, raised in the Underhalls Appearance/Equipment Deitrich is a middle-aged man who inherited his father's tall build and dark hair alongside his mother's blue eyes and thin lips. Gaunt yet strong, he garbs himself in blue and white, with a black castle rising from a similarly black field sewn across his breast. He's prone to wearing gloves, so as to hide the burn scars that liberally coat his left hand. His beard is kept cropped short, and is beginning to show strands of white. For combat, Deitrich armours himself in steel plate. On his left hand, instead of a shield he prefers an extra thick steel gauntlet; useful for deflecting blades, though not strong enough to block a heavy blow directly. He arms himself with a hand-and-a-half sword carried at his hip, the hilt forged in the shape of a bear claw. Skills Sword Fighting*, Falconeering, Reading, Jousting, Dancing, Swimming, Orienteering, Writing, Arithmetic, Horse Riding, Archery Personality Deitrich is a hard, cold man; not well known for his cheerful witticisms. Driven by obsessive ideals of justice and honour, he's often found to be stubborn and unwavering in his tasks. History Decades ago, there was a young Albanian noble named Harrold. He was loud, strong, and fond of his drink. His first wife died giving birth to his son, though the son himself was healthy enough. That son was Deitrich. When Deitrich was four, there was a grand feast. Attending this feast was a woman named Lisa Heswell, accompanied by her brother Gregory. A long and bitter rivalry was shared between Gregory and Harrold, a shared hatred born in childhood and forged ever stronger since. Between Lisa and Harrold, however, were shared baudy jokes and enticing wit instead of angry words and threatening declarations. As the night carried on and the feast grew late, those who had been diligently drinking had turned red from intoxication. Lust flared, and Harrold and Lisa disappeared towards the bedchamber. However, it was not long before Gregory realized what had happened. He stormed off after them, and interrupted them mid revelry. Drunken and angry the both of them, it was hard to tell who challenged to other to a duel first. But a challenge was issued, and a challenge was accepted. They drew swords in that very room, too impatient to move to the courtyard; or to even get dressed in Harrold's case. It was a sloppy and embarrassing fight that was acted out before the horrified Lisa. And though Gregory struck a strong blow to Harrold's leg, it was Deitrich's father who stood above the bloodied corpse of his foe in the end. However, distraught and pressured by a family seeking vengeance for the loss of their son, Lisa wove a different tale. Harrold found himself accused of murder and rape, with no means to defend his innocence. He was exiled from the Kingdom of Albany, and any claim to his lands annulled. He packed up what valuable possessions he could, and took his young son with him when he limped off. The two took refuge among the darkmen of the Underhalls. Harrold's leg healed in time, but developed a severe pain condition. Mere walking became an excruciating ordeal, and most of his hours were spent sitting or lying down. Exiled, crippled, and lost in the dark tunnels of the Underhalls, he began to mold his son. To try and instill the same sense of righteous anger and duty into the young that he himself felt. The earlier pocketed valuables were sold off one by one, to buy Deitrich what he needed for a proper noble upbringing. Tutors, clothes, armour, and weapons all came at a cost; but it was a cost that noble trinkets were able to cover. Trainers were employed to teach the physical skills that Harrold found himself incapable of, and scholars to teach him a level of literacy above that of his father. On one night, while Deitrich was still young, Harrold grew drunk. The bitter taste of his exile struck harder than it had in years and he began to shout at Deitrich, accusing him of laziness and treachery. He rose to his feet, forgetting his crippled leg. It collapsed beneath him, sending him tumbling into the hearth. Deitrich severely burned him hand trying to pull his father out from the flames, but to no avail. With few options available to him, Deitrich took what belongings they had remaining and left. And so it was that on his eighteenth birthday, Deitrich rose from the Underhalls and returned to claim him lands from his uncle who had been holding them as regent in his absence; his fathers seal in hand and twenty sellswords at his back. The lands now in his possesion, Deitrich chose new words for his reborn house: "Forged Anew". Miscellaneous
