With a Team Rocket Grunt for a father, and a Team Rocket Scientist for a mother, Kael was already on the path to becoming a Team Rocket member himself by being influenced at an early age. While living in Kanto, he had been raised to be arrogant, condescending, and to have a capacity for cruelty, going to any means to please his parents. At the same time, Kael was able to put on the facade of being much nicer, but still just as loud. His father's main jobs tended to involve infiltrating places where Pokémon were stored as Pokéballs, namely Pokémon Centers, and stealing as many Pokémon as possible to be sent to Team Rocket HQ. Kael wanted to follow in his father's footsteps, and has occasionally stolen minor things from Pokémon Centers himself. Kael is often pleased when he sees a Pokémon Center, not only because he can heal any Pokémon he might have, but because he could contribute to Team Rocket's movement.

When Kael came of trainer age, his father negotiated with some of the assistants at Team Rocket HQ, and they sent Kael his first Pokémon - a Pawniard from Unova. However, somewhere along the line, someone made a mistake, and a second Pawniard was accidentally sent alongside the first. They were identical, and it was difficult to tell them apart, Kael was never fond of giving nicknames, but he has since dubbed them "The Warped" and "The Arced", respectively. However, he changed the colour of The Arced with some sort of paint, so they could be told apart better. Some tend to mistake The Arced for a shiny Pokémon, but are quickly corrected by Kael. With his two Pokémon, he was finally able to go on his own 'journey' to become a [s]Pokémon Master[/s] Team Rocket Executive.

Although he has never seen him before in person, Kael apparently compares Giovanni to some sort of god, and respects him as such. So much so that many of his battle victories and acts of thievery are in the name of Team Rocket. Some would likely call him a fanatic, and they would probably be right.

Kael appears to have a preference for dark type Pokemon, secondary or primary. But at the moment, he only has two of the same kind of Pokémon.
