[B]Backstory/Personality:[/B] The young Tokugawa Kokone was lost in a great fire back when the Joui Wars were reaching their end. An extremist faction targeted the Shogun, believing they were being far too soft in letting the Amanto settle in their Samurai nation. It was an arson attack. The 12th Shogun and the to-be Shogun, Shige Shige (13th) were taken to safety first, but his sisters were still trapped in the Citadel. The younger of the two was Princess Soyo, who was still just a toddler at the time. Because of her age, Soyo said she couldn't remember a thing other than being tossed out of the Citadel by her sister, fortunately into the arms of a loyal Samurai retainer. The whole building came down moments after. Kokone was presumed to have been burned to death or crushed underneath the epic structure, but she'd saved her little sister. The whole country honoured the girl for her sacrifice, even the Joui factions who had supposedly killed her - that girl had the heart of a Samurai. It took a lot of pressure off the Shogunate, as Joui patriots across the country stood down and realised that the Shogun's family weren't just a bunch of cowardly nobles. However, they didn't let up any pressure on the Amanto foreigners.

...Only, Kokone was still alive. She wasn't the only one still left in the burning Citadel. The man who would become the chairman of the Shinsengumi, Matsudaira Katakuriko, had saved her life in a daring stunt that could have killed them both. Moments after Kokone saved her sister, Katakuriko snatched her arm out of seemingly nowhere and led her quickly up a few flights of stairs before diving out of the Citadel, straight over the walls and into the surrounding river below. Nobody saw them. After the two were back on dry land, Kokone refused to let the Chairman take her back to her brother and sister. She knew her 'death' would change the Shogunate's standing with Joui factions everywhere. There would be peace, even if it didn't last very long or affect everyone fighting.

Instead of returning, Kokone wished to change her name and live as a commoner in Edo, just as her brother Sada Sada wanted to know what it was like. A life in nobility had little freedom - the life of a common girl gave her the freedom of choice. Even though she was free, she still ended up working for the government when she was recruited into the Shinsengumi aged 16. Usually, the Shinsengumi would strictly not take any female members, but Matsudaira pulled a few strings stating that Kokone's was a 'special case'. Within a year of joining, 'Kokone Murasaki' became Captain of the 2nd Squad - and yet another rival to Okita Sougo of 1st Squad.[/hider]

[B]Backstory/Personality:[/B] Sagami Takeshi was a wandering Ronin before joining the Shinsengumi with the rest of his friends in Bushu: Kondo, Hijikata and everyone else who trained and grew up together. After the Shinsengumi was founded, Sagami was made the Intelligence Officer, who was in command of all the spies in the force. Alongside Hijikata and Okita, Sagami is one of the Shinsengumi's strongest swordsmen, though he's probably the weaker of the three. While the other two put their skills to practical use, Sagami enjoys to train the rookies and teach them effective sword styles or techniques.[/hider]

[B]Backstory/Personality:[/B] Arashi is of typical Yato origin. Since childhood she was raised into war, her mother being the only relative she knew. She was raised with the belief that everything existed as a challenge, and that battle was all the Yato lived for. Upon reaching the age of 13, she killed her loving mother in cold blood to show others her growing power and was vilified for it by many of the calmer Yato people. She became associated with another villainous Yato her age - Kamui, whom she joined the Harusame 7th Division alongside, where many of her exiled kind were drawn together as scum. It wasn't a bad existence for her really, given the majority of the universe was against the Harusame Space Pirates. What crazy battle addict could refuse having an entire universe to oppose as they see fit?

Eventually, a man named Takasugi, a Samurai from Earth called for an alliance between his terrorist group the Kiheitai and the Harusame Pirates. As a sign of goodwill, Kamui sent Arashi to join the Kiheitai. The Kiheitai wanted nothing more than to destroy, so who better to send than a Yato to join their ranks? An embodiment of destruction...[/hider]

We had ships, artillery, guns, numbers, we had everything we needed to ensure a swift crushing of the rebelling Samurai. It hit us like a fucking meteor when we engaged in battle for the first time. We underestimated the Samurai, and they killed countless Amanto during the first weeks of the war. It was more a war of attrition than anything else. You can kill Samurai, but you can't crush their spirit it seems. Nearing the end of the war, my whole division was tasked with the destruction of Takasugi Shinsuke's Kiheitai and Katsura Kotarou's forces. We hit them with an ambush, making sure to bombard them from the sky just as hard as we attacked them on foot. It didn't take long for the fight to reach a stalemate... My superiors had decided taking Takasugi and Katsura's heads would finish this easily. I set out to do just that with my personal guard force. We annihilated everything in our path, until we met a silver-haired Samurai. Sakata Gintoki... 'Shiroyasha' (White Demon). I nearly lost an eye. I lost my left arm, and have a scar from where he drove his katana through me. I won't lie - after surviving an encounter with that demonic man, I quit the military. Instead, I found myself being recruited by the Harusame for my reputation as a war hero. A broken war hero, but I felt I needed to do something with myself. Piracy isn't wrong.
