Let me say first that, I like this place. It's lively, the people are nice and creative, and I really want to fit in here and make something. But effort isn't always met with satisfaction. Everyone starts small so, I guess I'll just have to keep trying, and push for something to work. Even if it means making lots, and lots, of friends around here. Anyway, on to the good stuff. ... VOLDOA --- City of Monsters Now, I would articulate a long, long introduction here, but I'll save it for the actual thread when it's ready to happen. The story is set in Europe during the afterglow of the Industrial Revolution, late 1800s. In the years beforehand, all over the region, creatures that would normally belong in myths lived among mortal men. Demons, vampires, werewolves, undead, the more generic beings we can envision. Plus, the not-so obvious, from gorgons to wendigos to satyrs, but maybe you'd picture those easily as well. Anyway, these creatures and many more existed and, for a time, terrorized humans. Time went on, however, and things changed. Machines were invented. Guns were mass-produced. Mobs began to take up arms against entities they deemed evil and, suffice to say, the tides turned. The creatures were the ones running from then on. By that time, they were not myth. They were a commonly known part of the world, but instead of being feared horrors of the night, they became talks of game hunting and ridicule. With a reversal of roles, so came the sympathizers. And with the sympathizers came Voldoa. It was a city that seemingly sprang up overnight. It was built high in the mountaintops, away from the civilized world, by giants of decaying flesh and metal. These creatures, as it turned out, were made by humans. The same humans, calling themselves "the Engineers", spread word of this safe haven wherever they could across Europe and surrounding areas. Creatures of all shapes, sizes, and stories were welcome to travel there and live in safety, away from mankind, and away from the threat of extinction. Many left for Voldoa immediately, and while others were stubborn at first, they eventually traveled there as well. The Engineers welcomed them with open arms, and provided them with housing, sustenance, entertainment, the expected things. And as well, they gave them what they craved as "monsters", though the term was looked down upon within the walls of the city - meat, flesh, blood, all the sort. A seemingly endless supply of fresh remains, both human and cattle. The Engineers never revealed where it came from, but the residents of the city never asked. Thus, the setting of the story will be one full decade after Voldoa was deemed complete and open for residence. The city has remained safe from humankind thanks to its location and manner of defense, being the same giants who erected the city patrolling the mountainside. The Engineers have allowed the residents to come and go as they please, though most, if not all, remain indefinitely, as the outside world remains a mystery, and an unsettling place to them. The Engineers' creations, the giants, act as guardians, watching over the city and making sure the residents are safe and satisfied. The Engineers themselves see to the more rudimentary matters, and the residents are allowed to live as they please, in safety and silence. ... That's all I have at the moment. Of course, it's subject to editing, addition, revision, all the like. If you're interested, say so here. If not, well... thanks for reading anyway. Godspeed.
