Just to be clear, as long as you can write the amount I'm asking you to, I don't care how old you are.
I started way back when I was little and by the time I was 16-18 I was writing as much as I am now (probably more so because I didn't have all this 'adult' crap I have to deal with).
So yeah, I don't judge by age or gender preference, some people aren't comfortable playing the opposite gender, I understand that but take it from someone who's been role playing for many years. 
You open up SO many doors and reach SO many new heights as a writer when you write the opposite gender; you will feel so proud of yourself!
I encourage anyone and everyone to try, it doesn't have to be with me but I really do encourage you to try!
