“Hey, heard any new rumours?” This made Phil’s mouth twitch into a frown. What man living in the city hasn’t heard a good rumour or two? But…gossiping, Phil viewed as rather cowardly. Not only that, but rather dangerous as well. Only a month ago, a lesser noble was executed for ‘treason’. It was plain as day that the guy had been a gossip, had angered the wrong nobility, and was put to an end. That guy was a lesser noble, but a noble none the less, imagine what they’d do to a lowly temporary guard? One who is traveller in need of more travel money, one with no family to speak of, no important ties to nobility of note…they’d end Phil so fast, if he stepped on the wrong toes with the wrong series of word. “I got nothing. Shut up, we got this house to guard.”
-----
*KNOCK KNOCK* The maid waited at the chamber doors, but there was no answer from inside. Waiting only a moment longer, she reached for the door knob and twisted it slowly. As she slowly opened the door, a finger of sunlight from the window behind her snuck into the room, causing her to blush when she finally saw the pure-blooded vampire within. Claudius was awake, that was for sure. Sitting on his side of the king sized bed, the white haired vampire was naked…thankfully, the covered were draped over his waist, and covering his female companion beside him. The female companion was a half-vampire. Stirred by the light of the sun poking in, she rolled out of bed and began pulling on her clothing from the earlier night, before bumping shoulders with the maid as she left. Now it was just the maid…and the pure-blooded vampire before her. Making her approach, it was then that she noticed that the white haired inhuman was reading, clear eyes pouring over a thick book of sewn together pages. “Ahem, excuse me, milord.” His light coloured eye flicked over to the maid, and it was only then that he realised that it was day, from the light coming into his chamber doors. The female companion he had for the night was now gone, and now this human maid stood before his bed instead. The papers in his hand rustled, before they were over taken by shadow and disappeared. The human maid had his full attention, and so she began again, “Master Eirham and Master Vallewida are calling for you to attend the meeting in the dark room; there is some business that needs to be attended to, people to meet.” The dark room…was a large space underground for the vampires to meet with humans…because not every vampire could walk under the light of day. Pausing to think about this for a moment, the pureblood turned to the maid, “Thank you, you’re dismissed.” As the girl bowed, scrambling to leave as Claude got up from the large bed. Getting dress, pulling on his usual style of garb, fixing up his hair rather vainly in front of his silver mirror…leaving the room, he was met with the day guard. Fifteen human soldiers, all with different magic and weapon skills, all here to assure they his powerless-in-the-day-self would be safe from enemies…and to make sure that he couldn’t just sneak away. Through the hall of the first floor of the estate, they all made their way down the staircase of the east wing, before heading into the basement. Through the basement, they entered into the underground passage leading to the dark room… “…” The dark room was a large chamber with stone walls on all sides. A long table was arranged in the center, with many elegant chairs by it, and on the ceiling was an illusion rune...not that the rune itself could be seen, but rather, the illusion it cast. A far reaching blue sky, fluffy white clouds…no sun, never sun. More than half of the vampires present gazed up at it, almost in a trance like state. As he stepped foot into the room, he could see one end of the table were full up with the people they’d be discussing matters with, and the other end was where he would sit. Along with Eirham and Vallewida, two vampires who split his assets for ‘safe keeping’, there were their bodyguards and many different other types of entourage members…and some vampire council members who bear witness to the business dealings for ‘posterity. Passing by a number of the impure bloods…Claude could feel a number of resentful gazes on him. They were screaming at him ‘WHY CAN’T I BE UNDER THE SUN?!’, among other hateful or spiteful things. Casting a passing glance, he couldn’t even spot which one he felt these feelings from…because he was certain, somewhere deep inside, they all felt this way about him. Continuing on, he took his seat and leaned back in his chair, looking bored on the outside and feeling frustrated on the inside.
