[B]Backstory/Personality:[/B] Izumi Hana Zala is the daughter of the Coordinator war hero Athrun Zala, and the Natural-born Queen of ORB, Cagalli Yula Athha. Her very existence is a strange idea to some - she is living proof that Coordinators and Naturals can live and work together in peace. Having been raised by her positively wise parents, Izumi was taught to accept everyone for who they are and always look toward the future, even if it meant fighting for that peaceful future. Originally she didn't intend to become a mobile suit pilot or study at the ZAFT Military Academy, she only joined up because her best pal Lucia did! It was definitely the more exciting option when compared to getting involved in ORB's political system. Turns out she had her father's abilities as far as piloting skills went. Inheriting that combat prowess secured Izumi a place as a 'Red Coat', a ZAFT soldier who had earned their uniform through recognition of skill or experience. The Academy was a breeze. Izumi was easily the best trainee pilot in her class, and alongside Lucia would be assigned to an elite unit aboard a brand new ship after graduation. This didn't exactly earn the two girls many friends, put it down to their superior ability and the less-skilled pilots jealousy.

The Aotisa Team, under a veteran Red pilot, Zerenis Aotisa, fell in with the Minerva-class ship 'Furious' as a part of the Z.A.F.T attachment to the 1st Colonial Fleet. They took part in the first skirmish with the ETs and later fought with TF Sabre against an ET patrol group. Izumi's ZGMF-X23S Saviour was destroyed by an angelic mobile suit during this battle, the young pilot was critically injured physically and mentally, and fell into a comatose state. Two weeks later she awakened on the CSC's Archangel-class flagship, the Escutcheon. (And that's as far as the old IC got~)
