Shayre has eaten from the fruits, that is why he sees something different. I would prefer it if what he sees is the truth and that creature is dangerous, but if you really want it the other way around, you two are free to decide the fruit makes you hallucinate.
Note on the water: theres dew on the moss (the moss holds water really well) and the fruits are full of sap too unless it turns out it makes you hallucinate, then that one wont work anymore i guess (but then we'd have a waterstream)
