She let out a small chuckle and shrugged. "Perhaps it was technically a better time for mages, but it was far worse for Blights. We had no Grey Wardens and we had no idea the darkspawn would attack us. We all were caught unprepared. Only by a fluke was I preserved and able to pass on what I know to this day. I do note, though, that the Templars and Chantry are obsessed with stigmatizing fringe magic like blood magic. So, magic now is far more restricted. I am none too fond of that. I do not practice blood magic myself, but I have seen what they can do if given a good outlet and given the proper treatment. It also seems my shapeshifting magic would bother Templars as well due to it being an apostate style of magic. Then again, I am simply a target as I am an apostate myself, a really well trained apostate that is actually formally trained from another era."
