It's optimised for them, sure, but it works perfectly well otherwise. I don't know who's saying using the interface is impossible, because I've never had any problems, and you can very easily disable the "mouse movements bring up menus etc." options. There is almost literally no difference in operation between Windows 7 and 8 (unless you want there to be and use apps).
