Aw man, I wanted to do telekinesis... Nevermind: I came up with two powers! I couldn't decide which to use, so I'm submitting the weirder one. If it's not acceptable, I can use the other one. Name: Beatrice Simms Age: 16 Appearance: [img=http://us.cdn3.123rf.com/168nwm/vova1675/vova16751402/vova1675140200060/25750569-beautiful-sweet-young-girl-with-pigtails.jpg] She is of average height and weight and dresses causally, in jeans and shirts. Sometimes she decides to dress better. This usually results in strange colour combinations (neon green and orange), too many accessories or completely different styles of clothes worn together (a frilly blouse with acid-washed jeans and jewelled flats). Or, if she's feeling particularly adventurous, all three at once. Personality: Beatrice is quiet, studious and analytical, believing that the best way to solve a problem is always through careful study and methodical implementation of a solution. In a conversation she is typically passive, smiling and following the flow of speech. The only exceptions are when someone says something she knows to be wrong or logically unsound. When this happens, she feels compelled to correct them, making her come across as a know-it-all. She has tried to change this by copying the mannerisms and speech patterns of those she perceives to be more popular, with varying degrees of success. She may also attempt to do this with anyone she talks to, though usually not to the extent that they realise it. She is also rather literal-minded, and has difficulty understanding sarcasm and rhetorical questions as a result. It is a generally not a good idea to ask a question you don't want her to answer. Ability: Beatrice's ability appears to be intangibility, phasing and levitation. She can remain intangible for up to five seconds at a time, phase through walls up to two metres thick and levitate up to one metre off the ground with no time limit. Her real power is slightly more complicated. Beatrice is able to induce "waking lucid dreams" in herself. In them, she cannot read, speak or recognise faces. However, she can see people's states of mind, represented with rather literal symbolism. For example, someone worried because of trouble at work may appear buried in paperwork, or have a cloud of imps with the face of the person causing the trouble flying around their heads. This is currently limited to surface thoughts or major preoccupations. When she shifts out of the "dream", she gains the powers in the above paragraph for three times the duration she remained in it. Using her power also provides all benefits of both REM and non-REM sleep. This is a good thing as it has replaced her ability to sleep normally, activating when she falls asleep and deactivating when she wakes up. Whenever she sleeps, her power leaves her in a dream version of her surroundings. She can go to any place she has been in the past twenty-four hours, and she can read, but only books or papers she currently owns. Her real body remains where it is, but to her it feels as if she had not gone to sleep at all. The only way to tell is by trying to speak. In theory, with hard work and practice she should be able to combine the different aspects of her power while awake, leaving her with all of their benefits and none of their weaknesses. In reality, this is all but impossible and would be extremely damaging to her sanity, not least because it would completely remove her ability to sleep. Reason For Acceptance: Scholarship Brief Background: Beatrice's parents hold high positions in their respective companies. This resulted in them not having as much time to spend with their only child as they would have liked, leading them to spend on extravagant family outings and holidays. Still, Beatrice seemed to appreciate them, and never once showed resentment at their hectic schedule. They were grateful for this, and that she showed no interest in boys, or in hanging out at the mall after school. This changed three months ago when she began behaving erratically and appearing disoriented in school. In reality, her powers had manifested and she was trying to avoid sleeping as much as possible, unsure whether she was awake or asleep at any given time. After two weeks, she walked out in the middle of a dodgeball game during P.E., phasing through the ball and the walls of the gym in the process. Her parents were surprised as they were both genetically normal, but remained supportive of her. Their doctor said that Beatrice's disorientation was due to perceiving other people's thoughts around her constantly, and her parents wanted to pull her out of school until she could cope. Beatrice refused and taught herself how to distinguish between her sleeping and waking periods. She also used the extra time in her day to study, and managed to secure a scholarship to the U.L.T.R.A Academy. Her parents were concerned at first but the acceptance letter won them over, and they agreed to let her transfer. Other: -Her parents send her a rather large allowance each week (about 80 dollars). She still has no interest in shopping, but they insist on making sure she has enough to buy whatever she needs. She's been saving the money left; she's not sure what she'll need it for but it's there, just in case. -She doesn't like literature. Books are fine; it's the subject she can't stand. This is more because of her literal mindset than anything else.
