Edit: Question - would those who can transform into animals also feature, say, personality traits of whatever animal they're supposed to be, even when they're not transformed? For example someone who's supposed to be a mouse would be more timid, whereas something like a bear would be more aggressive, and then maybe nocturnal animals would be nocturnal all the time, or at least enjoy the night more than most people... something like that?
