I don't care about being offended, that ultimately means nothing.
Otherwise it becomes a common cop out simply when someone says something you don't agree with.

I was criticizing it for it being a baseless attack on people due to what chromosomes they were born with.

Just cause something worse happens elsewhere doesn't mean another act should be ignored.
Ex: I got mugged on the way home from school, but I shouldn't complain because other people get raped when they do so.

(And before anyone get's worried, no I wasn't actually mugged).

And simply defaulting to "It's a joke" doesn't really help it. 
Like my earlier example "All women getting worked up over things" would not simply be seen as ok if I went "But it was a joke".
