Not only him. He brought a Noble along who in the end was one of those mainly responsible for Surprise's death. Shinji helped it along by weakening Surprise. Don't believe him if he tries to tell you that he was trying to stop Crona; the words he said during that fight point completely otherwise. He was pretty much against everyone. *sighs*
