After careful deliberation, we have determined that it is in the interest of both powers that we set aside our differences and work together toward a common goal of preserving peace on the continent. To the my people, I wish for you to understand that this is an opportunity for the Austrian Empire to further its interests abroad and ensure that the common interests of both Austria and Turkey are carried out. To the people of the Balkans, we would like you to know that you are not forgotten. We work tirelessly with our Ottoman partners to ensure that peace is maintained in the region and that you and your people see the same success and prosperity known to your brothers and sisters in the rest of Europe. Without delay, the Treaty of Vienna of 1861: “The Austrian Empire and the Ottoman Empire recognize a lengthy history of bloodshed and violence between our two states but come here today to put that behind us and solidify an alliance to ensure that there will be peace on the European continent. Under the sole provision of this declaration, the Austrian Empire and Ottoman Empire shall ally with one another, supporting one another in the event that either declares war on or is declared upon by another Great Power of Europe.” Once more, we urge our fellow Europeans to exercise caution. May negotiations go well for all parties, and may we spare Europe from another senseless blood-letting. - Franz Joseph I, Emperor of Austria
