I am finishing off events now and you should be able to continue soon, tonight for sure. Also on the note of the army's support the reason is your nation was made to swear fealty to the Kaiser and to protect their nation. Now they have to protect another whole people, system and ruling class (your representatives) who they will have no feeling for at all. Furthermore as was said during this time almost all officers were noble somehow and the nobles lose a lot of sway if they now have to influence the congress and the kaiser to get their way.
