At this point in time 'up-to-date' militaries where using percussion cap muzzle loading rifles and cap-and-ball revolvers right? 
Were smoothbore rifles still the main driving force or was the rifled barrel more common at this point?
When did self contained cartridges become the militaries go to rifles?
