[centre]Sophie Ann was a governmental adviser, who had always dreamed of having a job high up in society - however, after observing many corrupt politicians and the treachery of tactical politics, she quit and has now taken on a more low-key job for a private company. She is very academically bright - particularly in biochemistry - and has won many awards in her field, leading many different research teams in various scientific pursuits. She lives alone, in a small flat, with a dog called Herbert. 
Soon after quitting, she was involved in a car accident, when she was driving her brother home from the airport for Christmas. Her brother, Vernon, was killed but she didn't even sustain a scratch. The only thing she could remember was being engulfed in a ghostly, bubble-like shield before she woke up on a hospital bed. She became recognised as a medical marvel, as no one could understand why her seat had been torn to shreds, but she (discovered sat in it) was completely fine. It was then, later that week, that she got the feeling she was being watched. She managed to shake it off for the first month or so, though. Her mind was on different things.
She began to research the topic of the abnormal - desperate to know how she survived. She didn't believe in God or some secret force; she believed everything could be explained by science. She eventually stumbled across an article on a certain Charles Xavier, who's thesis included hinted possibilities of humans possessing 'mutations'; developing abilities that normal humans may only dream of. Maybe that was the answer.
And so she decided to try and find him, and ask him herself.[/centre]
[centre]Sophie's mutation allows her to create physical and mental shields in self defence, when she is being attacked. Physically, this appears as a transparent bubble or wall, that can withstand immense heat, pressure and force and can encompass an individual or small group of people. Mentally, she cannot receive or project telepathic thoughts - unless she gains enough control to 'loosen' her mental shield - or be affected by an mutant's abilities that involve direct manipulation of the brain.[/centre]
