The Chinese-Japanese tensions have been a thing for a while. And Prussia has transformed into Germany. Armenia has achieved independence from Turkey and others are sure to follow in the post-Sultan world; most of the Ottoman Empire is independent at least as far as the map goes.

Istanbul is its own thing too on the basis of being such an international city they won't work out in a restored Greek State. So they've become a nation all their own.
