Perhaps in Britain but my experiences among irish republicans (seeing as how I am one and a supporter of both the Sinn Fein and a few paramilitary organizations that may or may not be labeled as terrorist organizations.) That they since the beginning were fighting for a free irish state and that the oppressive British laws and rule while a factor where not as big as was the mere want of a irish state which I believe they would have fought for even if the British became a republic much like Zionism to the Jews irish nationalism was not just a movement powered by civil rights and political rights but the want of a Zion for the irish.
