And yet...Gohan is STRONGER than Goku. It was the Buu saga that established the "Goku MUST BEAT EVERYONE BY GETTING STRONGER!" And, as it was said before, the Buu saga was crap. Most of the DBZ fan base disregards it along with GT. Goku had DB, DBZ was obviously Supposed to be Gohan's story and...then shit happened. 

And I think you are confused. Yes, the Dragon Ball story may have started a similar early story...you know aside from Goku being very violent until he hits his head...but even then, it wasn't like Superman. Dragon Ball was also about a group of people joining together towards a common goal: to stop Piccolo. Then of course the Red Ribbon Army.
