Yes, there are major islands of Hisen. There can be unmarked minor islands elsewhere. Sobetsu is about the size of continental America.
I was wondering if your character would have been "religious" at all (believing in certain Elemental entities/creatures/etc.)
But considering his sword specialties, I would think he would have lived around the city of Nobegane (sheet metal/sword) or one of its towns: Katana (engraving tool), En (edge/fate), Hashi (edge/tip), and Gara (handle/design). Of course, you could have lived in a village and name it yourself and give it it's own subculture. I did so for my character. Those are in the western central area of Beruga within a mountainous area, if you're wondering about topography at all.

I'll have to find a way to upload the map. The only way I can easily do it is take pictures with my phone and somehow download them to my computer and then upload them through tinypic. Actually seeing the city names and such would be difficult if at all possible, so I'd have to find a way possibly edit it on the computer and upload edited versions of the maps when we move throughout the country.
