A ship won't go straight into the line of fire, speacialy if it can shoot you from afar, and shooting a moving target while moving and rocking away in the waves, or in a storm, aint that easy, canons weren't made to be shot at point blank range......... (in one piece anyway xD, real pirates just blindly fire)
