Your Aptitude is included into the Survival rolls, but it is not your Rank.
Say you have an Aptitude score of 4, and you are a Rank 4.
You would have a roll bonus of 8 (Apt + Survival Rank / 4 + 4) and that number would be added to the otherwise 1-20 die roll of sheer horror that is the GM's will.

Don't worry too much: The GM will do all the rolls and number-crunching~
