Profile Username: MelonHead Name: Joshua Garred Age: 24 Archtype: Bruiser Priest Personality: (External) Rough and ready, course, blunt, good-humoured, loyal, brave. (Internal) Religious, moral, disillusioned, insecure. Weapon Training: None formally, though he has hands-on experience with hand-to-hand fighting and favors blunt weapons due to his significant strength advantage. Abilities: Healing Hands, basic healing magic (works on target, but offers passive healing to the user at a far less direct and advanced rate). Purification, advanced affliction curing (deals with poison, disease, and other unholy or magic afflictions that can effect a person, though its effects vary.) Race: Human Appearance: A large man, not at all what one would expect from a priest and a healer, Joshua stands at roughly 6 and a half feet tall, with obviously muscled arms and a generally large appearance. Though not overweight, he carries more fat and muscle than one would expect for times when food is hard to come by, which makes him a formidable opponent in terms of pure strength, where he easily outclasses the large majority of humans and other flimsier species. His face is incredibly average with short blonde hair, blue eyes and a crooked smile only marked by a nose broken in the past, and his skin a tanned white, with a few barely noticeable scars here and there. His general appearance looks more like an ex-soldier than a priest. Background: Joshua grew up on a farm, the youngest of four children and sadly the cause of his mother's demise at child-birth. Born a large child, working on the farm only hastened his growth, that and a knack for stealing food-stuffs wherever he could find it. Unfortunately for him, his usefulness on the farm was far outweighed by his food bill and the ever circling lawmen on the tail of his antics, his father did the only thing he could for the greater good, though Joshua would always swear he did it out of spite for his existence. His price was far more decent then his father could have ever imagined though, for he was one of the gifted. Joshua was inducted into the Church of the Creator in Lussi (or rather sold by his struggling father) at a young age, for such a fanatical group is always eager to prove they have an actual divine’s blessing with healers and other mages at their disposal to produce acts of wonder for the lesser beings. Obviously, Joshua was one of those rare sorts who was just not –right- to be a priest. The final proof, as you were, if any was ever necessary, that one could be born a healer, but not always a priest. Strangely enough it was more the oppressive restrictions of church life, abstinence, refraining from drink, that sort of thing, which got to him. He was always somewhat taken in by the religious indoctrination side, and is still a fervent believer with some minor authority as a priest (though he could never be formally recognised as one anymore, he couldn't definitely pose convincingly as one.) After participating in one bar-fight too many, he was banished from the church, his end goal finally reached he wandered plying his gift for money where he went, until his requirements for excitement finally got the best of him and he felt the need to join a certain mercenary guild. Country of Origin: Lussi Weapons: A stout wooden cudgel, iron-knuckle-duster-esque equipment. Clothing: A set of brown priest robes which the insignia’s removed, covering a burnished iron breast plate and tough leather clothing. He also wears iron bracers, providing him some protection from sword strikes if he’s quick enough to move his arm in the way. Equipment: Sackcloth bag filled with basic rations and equipment one would expect from a mercenary, and a small black leather bound holy book which one probably wouldn't. The Priesthood: This is where I'll be adding pros and cons of Joshua's (sort of) unusual background as I think of them. Pros: Joshua can read and write. He can provide basic priestly services, though not legally binding nor technically sound in religious terms neither. His gift of healing has been developed and he has been tutored in its proper usage, on top of a deeper understanding of human biology. He knows a lot about the specific priest hood he belonged to. He can play the part of a priest particularly well, which can help him avoid trouble. Cons: Morally questionable (for a mercenary) can make him reluctant to kill, wouldn't kill an innocent of defenseless person under almost any circumstance. Religiously Intolerant Unaccustomed to the consistently hard life of a mercenary, especially at war. (Though his life has still been comparably difficult, and very few would call him weak.) Lack of anything resembling military or even basic combat training.
