No info on The Fracturing is a pretty plain point. Its a very major event that effected the entire world and is pretty much the starting point for the whole story. Everyone would have been [i]somehow[/i] effected by it. 

As for the whole slavery thing, well, its one shes iffy about as well. The entire thing sounds more like a pirate setting with the ship and the islands and whatnot. The world is a place with massive cities and common use of both magic and technology, they'd be pretty far beyond boats and piracy. There may be criminals and stuff in the world but magic is common enough you wouldn't exactly need slaves for it. She really doesn't want to come off as harsh or anything... but it unfortunately doesn't seem to mesh very well with the world.
