Lore Addition
Crimsia was one of the oldest city-states in all of Syindra. While it doesn't have the far reaching influence that Indiga might have, it is considered a cultural center. It is believed that several magics were born on this island including Fire Magic, Earth Magic, and Farsight. The city-state was run by the council of Four, religious leaders from the four highest castes of its church. There is no poverty on this island, for resources, as well as work loads, are shared amongst everyone. The island has massive marble mines and huge fields of incense and dyes, making them highly desired by artisans and the wealthy. The Five Castes consists of the Farsight Mages, the leader of whom is known simply as The Prophet. The Prophet is selected as the most experienced Farsight Mage in the city after the previous Prophet dies, This is the highest Caste, and their word is law. The second caste is the Artisan's Guild, in charge of all crafts and trade within and without the city-state. The middle caste is the standard citizen, anything from a shopkeeper to a fisherman. The fourth caste is the Azulian, which is anyone on the island that isn't born in Crimsia. They are often treated with mild disdain unless they join the church wholeheartedly, through a series of trials. If they succeed, they become a proper citizen of the third caste. The lowest caste are the Marked Ones, which are criminal slaves. Anyone who has broken a law, gone against the church, or committed some other similar offense, has their face tattooed, their bodies changed, and are forced to work in the mines or fields. If they continue to cause troubles here, they are set adrift on a rickety raft into the seas, a fate that is most likely to result in death. However, in recent times, Crimsia was met with tragedy. The Prophet received a Vision that the island was to be destroyed by the volcano at the center of it. The church believed this to be destiny, and had intended to keep it from the main population. They believed if the Gods wanted them to die, then it would happen. However, a new initiate to the Farsight program, a young woman by the name of Cassia did not agree with their opinion. Her first ever Vision showed ships coming to rescue their people. When she brought this before the Prophet and the other Farsight leaders, they mocked her and her fledgling status, and dismissed her. She then took her information to the Chief Sculptor, one of the leaders of the Artisans' Guild Dimitri Slovegn. Unlike the Prophet, he believed her and contacted through merchants the nearby city-state of Indiga. Indiga pledged to have its navy bring ships to the island the day before the eruption was predicted to occur. The ships arrived and were refused entry to the island by the Prophet. They captured Cassia, Marked her face, and sent her to the fields to work, while they waited for their world to end. The Indigan Navy didn't leave though, waiting just off their shores. Then the eruption began, and the Prophet and many of the Farsight members were the first to be consumed in their temple at the base of the Volcano. The leaders dead, the people went into a panic and made for the ships, which assisted in their rescue. Dimitri led the Artisan's Guild to free the Marked Ones, personally saving Cassia. About sixty percent of the population was saved, but several ships were destroyed by falling debris and molten rock. With no one left from the highest caste, Dimitri took charge with Cassia. On the journey to Indiga, there was a massive change in the government of the former city-state. All of the Marked Ones were freed, and the statuses of every person was equalized with one exception. Cassia became the new religious leader, and consented with Dimitri that her role should have significantly less power than it would have been previously. As such, the Crimsian Senate was born. Each company within the Artisan's Guild was allowed one representative. An equal number of representatives from the new Crimsian Way, the upgraded religion, as we as an equal number from the standard citizens were appointed. There was now equal power among the masses. The Indigans emptied out one of their boroughs, relocating its own citizens so that the Crimsians could have a place to call their own. It is crowded, there is mild starvation, and the standards there are low, on par with some of the other slums in the city. The Crimsians, though thankful, began making themselves self-reliant, while avoiding the taxes and regulations of the powers of Indiga. The Indigans ignored this for the most part, so long as no harm came to its own citizens. The Crimsians often demand that they be given a representative in the Indigan Council, but were rejected due to avoiding the city's taxes. There has been a large amount of dissent amongst the Crimsians, particularly within the newly freed Marked Ones.
