On it! =D It's your turn now...
Name: Niran “Ran” Yuvaves Age: 36 Appearance: Many people have wrongly assumed that Niran is Arabic, Hispanic or Indian due to his skin color. Ran has become so accustomed to people asking him questions in Arabic, Malay, Tamil, Bengali and Spanish that he learned how to make small talk in these five languages. This is why no one would have guessed that he is actually Thai. While Ran is not particularly handsome, his eyes are his most striking feature. People would stop and stare whenever he removes his sunglasses. The reddish brown tone appears orange or even citron under certain light. What is even more mesmerizing is the fact that they appear to glow even in the most dimly lit room. Many relatives and close childhood friends often tease him by calling him “ตาเสือ (da suea)” or “Tiger Eyes”. They claim his eyes reminds them of that particular gemstone. Once strangers become accustomed to his unusual eye color they will notice that he has the most genuine smile they have ever seen. Hardly anyone can resist smiling back. So despite their initial trepidation they find themselves opening up to him readily. Hence he is often remembered as one of the most charming men they have ever met. His simple yet elegant outfits only adds to his overall charm. Most of the time he would wear a deep green or brilliant blue shirt, a white vest, a black tie and a pair of tailored pants. His blazer is always the same color as his pants. When he has to dress down he will wear an open collared long sleeved shirt with his usual tailored pants. The only accessory he invests in is a pair of sunglasses. Personality: Niran is easy-going and friendly. People love talking to him because he listens attentively and he responds as if he knows a lot about various topics. He isn’t truly knowledgeable, but he knows how to talk his way around unfamiliar topics. Naturally there are topics that he prefers to avoid. He always hesitates slightly when people asks about his goals in life. He feels that he isn’t ready to deal with such a complex issue at this point in time. Ran is definitely someone you can rely. He is surprisingly resilient even under immense pressure. Somehow he is able to remain calm and cheerful. He seems to be drawing strength from his boundless optimism. Thus he views problems as temporary obstacles that teaches you important life lessons. He never loses sight of the bigger picture. He relies heavily on his own life experiences when he advises others. The downside is that he avoids giving anyone a straightforward answer because he genuinely wants them to learn and become stronger. He understands that he should be adaptable when guiding someone, but he can be surprisingly dogmatic. His decisions are always guided by what he feels the person actually needs at that point in time. Creative is the last thing everyone would associate with Niran. He is far too level-headed and conservative. Surprisingly his creativity actually stems from his ability to take a step back and analyze a situation from all possible angles before coming up with a solution. His solutions tend to be more practical rather than creative. Even his art work reflects this trait. He is able to produce beautiful illustrations that captures the essence of the stories, but no one would actually call him gifted. Many sense that he is actually holding him back because he lacks the determination to take the necessary risks. He definitely can think out of the box when forced to. Backstory Niran isn’t very bright. He struggled a lot as a student, and he barely completed high school even with all the extra coaching he received from his teachers and private tutors. Rather than forcing him to study at university, Ran’s parents decided to help him capitalize on his apparent artistic talent. They sent him to Tokyo to work as an assistant mangaka. When he turned twenty five, Ran landed his first job as a part-time illustrator. He was finally accepted as a full-time illustrator after he completed his second project. By then he had already made up his mind to move to America. He even knew which publishing firm he wanted to work for. So he worked hard to build up his portfolio. During this period that he developed his own unique drawing style. Ran was puzzled why he was so unhappy even though he managed to achieve his goals by the age of thirty two. Even he was forced to admit his drawing style changed dramatically. While his pictures were more sophisticated, they lack the creativity and vitality that he had been so proud of. He hoped that he come out of “creative slump” eventually. He believed he was about to make a breakthrough when he lost his job. A year ago the publishing firm began downsizing, and his department was one of the first few to be closed. Ran was actually very excited. It would be the longest break he ever had since he was seventeen! He decided to take a year off and spend time with his family back in Bangkok. He planned to return to New York in mid-January to start a new career as a freelance illustrator. His enthusiasm began to wane after a few months. He felt restless all the time and his insomnia returned in full force. He hadn’t been able to sleep at night. Most of the time he would catch a two hour nap every other afternoon. He refused to take sleeping pills when his mom offered to buy him some. Almost on whim Ran decided to wander the streets of Bangkok on New Year’s Eve. He spent most of the afternoon sketching at Coffee Beans by Dao. He couldn’t even remember when he fell asleep, but a shy female staff woke him up as the shop was about to close. He raced up the BTS platform hoping to catch the last train home. He paced up and down nervously as he kept glancing at his watch. When he heard the train pull into the station he boarded immediately without a second thought. He was so busy texting his brother that he didn’t notice the other occupants in the train until it left the station… Wish: “I have forgotten what it’s like to dream. I almost wish I was naïve and idealistic again.”
PS: o.O I went to read up more about the character in the pic... freaky. I didn't know he was called the Tiger Hero. LOL!
