While at first Chris had cringed slightly away from Charlottes magical touch expecting it to hurt, or at least be very uncomfortable, she was instead pleasantly surprised by the soothing feeling dripping over her shoulder. Although she made the horrible mistake of watching her burn slowly being devoured by dark tendrils of skin slithering over the wound and knitting the shoulder back to its original condition. Chris knew that the horrifying image would be stuck in her nightmares for the rest of her days. Chris visible bristled at the mention of her hero name. She despised that name for many reasons such as not being a girl for starters, for crying out loud she was nearly thirty so how on Earth did the newspapers feel it decent to describe her as a girl!? Chris would’ve preferred ‘Rolling Woman’ or maybe even ‘Breakneck’ if she really wanted something cool. Chris stayed quite while the red head, Shot Hot or was it the other way round, and her healer traded snide remarks hoping that they wouldn’t turn their attention on her. But as the red head quickly stopped the argument in its tracks, which Chris was glad of in this situation, Chris was quite to act and redirect the conversation. “There are hostages in the bus behind those people fighting.” She stood up, rolling her shoulder tentatively to find that it worked without the slightest pang of pain. “You’re a speedster as well aren’t you? If we can get the bad guys distracted then us two can run in.” She pointed with both hands toward the battle. “Grab the hostages and run back out.” She then pointed in the opposite direction. “The problem is though getting through not just the shield surrounding the bus but also all the fighting and other henchmen all around it.” Chris added, thankful that the smouldering wreckage of the giant plant wall kept them out of sight and out of mind apparently. Then the shield around the bus flickered out of existence. “YES!” Chris nearly leapt for joy. Finally they were making some actual progress, finally the prize was in sight, and finally they would be able to win this exercise! Suddenly the world went very white and very loud and then very black with a piercing ring as the only sound in the world. She yelled in fright or at least she thought she did from the sensation of her jaw moving but other than that painful ring Chris couldn’t hear anything. Her unseeing eyes blinked furiously trying to work but still her vision remained resolutely black. After what felt like eternity the world slowly faded back into existence and the next thing she knew Ember had approached her very calmly with an apologetic smile. Chris flinched in surprise but didn’t bolt. “Oh no, it’s fine, it’s fine, I’m fine.” Chris quickly waved away Embers apology and edging slightly closer to her nearby team mates. Chris wasn’t trying to be rude but this person had just put her through quite a bit of pain and Chris was feeling very vulnerable right now, especially when remembered how scary ember had looked. As those who were still conscious were from the training room, Chris made sure to pick up her bag from where she had dropped it on the way out, and into the main hall for the speech Chris stayed close by Hot Shot and Charlotte seeing as they were pretty much the only other people she had interacted with during the exercise. Her shoulder felt very cold and Chris wondered where she would be able to buy a new jacket. It was just as well it got burned as the back was starting to come apart after her rolling so many times. “So.” Chris let her arms swing. Adrenaline was still running rampant though her body, both from the exercise comprising of man near death experiences and the excitement of actually being part of the League, but she had no idea what to do with it. Maybe she could go for a run after chatting with these two. But how to start? Name, her name was always a good place to start. “My name is Chris. It’s. uh, nice to meet you two.” She threw in the compliment at the last minute as was custom for whenever you’re greeting someone knew. She hoped she didn’t seem too awkward.
