Taerys sighed quietly to herself, nodding once at Teeth as he left. She didn't like seeing Varus question himself like that, but then again she guessed that it was a good quality to have; he wasn't overly self-centred and egoistic at least. "Messed up? No. It's just how they are. I don't think you or anyone else can change that. Rennac will get used to it, just like everyone else has. He'll settle in and find his place. Until then we just need to make sure that Jackdaw and Dresden don't overstep the mark." The Varyx shrugged nonchalantly but smiled gently. "I don't trust him either, but you'd think that the Alliance would be able to root out any spies or saboteurs before they got onto their most advanced ships." She remained silent for a second or two. "He was only trying to help. You can't blame him for that, and you can't blame yourself for any of it either."
