Well, in the process of developing the animals on my own, I have decided that only these specific type of deer have the skull-faced traits. There are still regular deer in various parts of the forest, however.
The skull-faced ones are in fact still hunted by the wolves, despite their new predatory status, but do in fact hunt the wolves as well... and also, their normal deer cousins.

And if this happens to take flight, beit 1x1 or a small group, I plan to have my MC as the patriarch of his tribe. It could basically revolve around survival, exile, romance (doubt anyone would actually like to picture this, two ugly scary deer in love and all), drama between enemy tribes/wolves/other apex predators... it can basically just go anywhere.

I am planning for this to be some sort of entire fantasy world, actually. Every animal in the forest is corrupt in their own special way. Though not all corruptions make the other predators, just... different in appearance pretty much.
