WIP
Character Sheet: Name: Caelis (Kay as in Okay and then add the lis) Age: 29 Gender/Sex: Male Height: 5'10" Race: Human Background: Caelis was born to a minor noble family in the Kingdom of Attolia, a small, but rich kingdom that had survived through centuries due to it's small, but elite military and victories in decisive battles. In Attolian tradition, when a man becomes an adult at the age of 18, the first son inherits the family's wealth and name. The second is given to the nation to serve as a soldier so that he may serve the nation and the people who allowed the family to prosper and have a second son. The third is given to the church to serve as a priest to thank god for giving a family three, healthy sons and a large family. Caelis was the second son of the Wolff family. Although the 2nd son didn't inherit the family's titles and property, the Wolff family had risen to nobility and prosperity due to generations of meritorious service on the battlefield and has provided some of the best field commanders in Attolian history. Therefore, Caelis retained a lot of responsibility since his family's name and honor depended on him. From his youth, Caelis was trained by his family in the art of war and leading. He wasn't a natural born prodigy, and didn't really enjoy it. However, he understood the importance of his training, and was pretty good at it as well. For a good portion of his youth, Caelis lived and breathed to train. Then one day at his first feast at the age of 10, Caelis heard music for the first time in his life. For some reason, the sounds of the instruments sent shivers up his spine, and made him feel... happy. He felt relaxed, safe, and content. The subtle vibratos, cresento, and allegro coalesced into a euphoric harmony that Caelis' keen ears picked up. Thus, whenever he had time, Caelis began to practice playing instruments so that he could make beautiful music. His life continued with little problems until when he was 16. After getting better from a serious fever and illness, Caelis' eyesight began to slowly worsen. At first, he ignored it and told no one. But after a few months, his training and sparring began to turn sloppy. He was starting to miss crucial swings and parries, and people took concern. His parents thought that he wasn't trying hard enough and was becoming lazy. In an attempt to return to his exceptional swordsmanship, he began to train from dawn to late at night, even abandoning his precious music. But, alas, it was to no avail. His accuracy continued to decline, and his swings, imprecise. Cursing at his deceiving eyes, Caelis then began to fight with his eyes closed at times, and relied more on other senses. He began to frequently click his tongue loudly in the midst of sparring and training to the confusion of his trainers and family. His swordsmanship stopped deteriorating after a few weeks. A month after, Caelis began to reclaim his lost talent. However, people noticed how strangely Caelis fought, and questions rose. Why did he often close his eyes when fighting and why did he keep making that noise? Caelis had to reveal the status of his worsening eyes. His parents were worried when they heard the news. How could a blind soldier serve in the military? A blind man couldn't fight in the midst of a chaotic battlefield. Panic and concern filled the Wollf family. How could the family's proud military history be upheld when their 2nd son was blind? At first, Caelis' family was sympathetic. They told him to not feel guilty as there was nothing that could be done about his bad eyesight. However, Caelis' tuned ears could pick up on the subtle disappointment and accusatory tones that hide behind those so called comforting words. Thus, on the night before his 18th birthday and his coming of age, Caelis left a letter in his room and left behind the Wolff name and household with a few of his possessions. In the letter, Caelis wrote to his parents that they should forget about him, and merely disown him. That way Caelis' younger brother could be considered as the official 2nd son of the Wolff family. That would give his family 3 years to train his scholarly brother into a warrior. From then on, Caelis traveled the unknown world with his eyes leaving him practically blind. Still, he wasn't completely defenseless. He brought with him some money, his sword to protect his physical self, and his wooden flute to protect his depressed mind. At first, he was left at the mercy of nature. Walking through forests was an ordeal and he had to learn quickly how to traverse uneven terrain, find food, and shelter. However, it wasn't just his will that allowed him to survive. He was at times saved by the occasional kind-hearted soul who would help him along the way whether it was by feeding him, giving him directions or giving him shelter. It took a while, but after a year. He was an experienced traveler who could handle himself and the occasional bandits who thought that a lone man was easy prey. In his fights, he still often closed his eyes, but still he needed them to see the enemy swing so that he could dodge, but even then... the swings were blurry, so he never tried to parry since it required a lot of accuracy. But, the second that an enemy overextended his swing or thrust, Caelis was quick to exploit the opening and dispatch the assailant. Despite the difficult life, Caelis was happy. He was free to make whatever choices he wanted, and no longer did he feel the burden of responsibility suffocate him. On top of that he used his musical talent to help him make some money, keep himself fed, and sheltered. By playing at inns for a night or two, he made some money, and was often fed and sheltered for free. So, he ended up making a living doing what he loved. It was a simple life. He would travel from town to town with no real destination in mind. Make a deal with the local barkeep, and do what he did best. Then, on the rare occasion when he had some money saved up. Caelis would go and buy another instrument. He eventually added a small harp and a small drum to his collection. Then began to play and learn that as well. That was his life for two years. Then one night, during one of his performances, there was a commotion outside. The barkeep had found a homeless, little girl, the village scamp, lurking outside his inn. He was cursing at the girl, asking if she was trying to steal food. The little girl stuttered that she just wanted to hear the angel sing. The barkeep continued to threaten the girl. Caelis stood up from his seat, and walked outside. He looked at the blob that sounded like the barkeep and told him that he would personally pay for this girl's dinner. That would make her a customer and asked if he yelled at all his customers like that. The barkeep mumbled something about a crazy, wanderer whose mother was a female dog as he walked back inside. Caelis led the girl inside and sat her at a table next to him. He then continued on with his music. After two hours, he was done for the night, and the inn was empty except for the little girl and the half-finished plate in front of her. She silently stared at Caelis as if she was looking at the Almighty himself. He looked at the little blob and asked her why she wanted to listen so badly. The little girl took a moment to think about her response. She then finally opened her mouth and a single word came out, "Happy". Caelis and the little girl would go on to talk for another hour. Apparently, she wasn't sure how old she was or what her real name was since both her parents either died or left when she was young. Either way, she had grown up alone in a orphanage ran by her local church where a nun had named her Faith. However, she recently had been kicked out because of her pointy ears that started to develop. She was called demon spawn by the sisters who ran the orphanage because she was apparently half elf. Caelis was dismayed that the church was capable of such evil. After all, did race really matter in faith? So, the last few months, she had been the local scamp. Forced to resort to trickery and stealing to get by. Still, the little girl was cheerful when she told Caelis that when she still lived in the church. She loved singing and was part of the choir. Caelis smiled and asked her if she wanted to sing a little for him. She gleefully accepted and cleared her throat. Caelis was glad that this girl was capable of being happy about singing despite what had happened to her lately. It was a miracle that she still retained her childish nature. But, what came out of that little girl's mouth was a miracle in itself. Shivers ran down Caelis' spine just like that one day when he was ten. He was listening to a real angel sing. When Faith finished, Caelis couldn't help but ask on an impulse. Would she be interested in travelling with him? The little girl asked if she could hear him play everyday and if he would feed her every night so that she wouldn't sleep hungry. Caelis responded "Hmm, that's a hard bargain. Only if you sing for me everyday too." To which the girl excitedly said "Then ya' got yer-self a deal!" 7 years had passed since that day, and the two have been travelling together ever since. (Continuation of background in part 2! AKA, Faith's background.) Ability/Weaponry: -Duelist: Although, he probably won't be able to fight a lot of enemies at once like in a battle. Caelis is definitely capable of beating a bandit or two very quickly since his style has evolved to finding the right time to strike in order to quickly incapacitate enemies, and relies on his speed. After all, it's hard to dodge or block attacks when you are practically blind. So, he tries to avoid long battles cause that means more swings to dodge. -Around the World: It's been 12 years since Caelis started travelling randomly. In that time, he's met a lot of people, so chances are that he has friends in almost any destination. -Muse: They say music calms the soul. Except for Caelis, that isn't just a claim. In fact, there's been a few instances where he's had some nature friends (animals) come and listen to him play when he's camped out in the wilderness. -Echolocation: Caelis' ears aren't tuned just to music. He has some amazing ears for a human, and has developed an ability to tell where medium to large objects are based on the echos of sounds that he makes. That is why he sometimes clicks his tongue in combat cause he wants to make sure that no one is sneaking up on him. So, in areas where there's no light, Caelis is capable of "seeing" like bats. Reason for Joining: Well, life on the road is difficult, and Faith isn't exactly young anymore. So, Caelis is treating this as one last grand journey before settling down and making sure that Faith gets some proper education so that she can do whatever she wants in life. After all, he knows the limitations of people who aren't educated, and how cruel people take advantage of that. She has a good intuition about people based on their looks. She knows easily whether someone is trouble just by looking at them. - Voice of an Angel: Faith has amazing control of her voice, and is just as capable and probably even more capable than Caelis in making beautiful sounds. - Elven Speed: Faith is agile. Whenever there's trouble and Caelis tells her to hide or run... well. There hasn't been anyone who could catch up to her yet. -God's Protection: On occasion, when things look dangerous. Coincidences happen that protect Faith. Maybe it is pure coincidence, but Caelis prays that it is divine protection or something like that. Background: Mmm, my life? Well~ my life wasn't really much when I was young. I lived in a church. Prayed everyday. I still do by the way! Then, my body started to grow and my ears started to turn pointy. The nuns there didn't like that. So, I had to leave. It was hard for a few months... Then I met Caelis! We've been travelling together. We're like bread and butter! You see Caelis can't really see that well. So, I'm his eyes. If I see anything, then I let Caelis know especially if I see someone who looks dangerous. Anyways, we travel around where ever we want, and preform for people. I get to eat good food and sleep in a warm bed just by doing what I love, sing! It isn't always safe travelling. Occasionally, we run into trouble, but Caelis takes care of it. But, when something is really dangerous, then Caelis tells me to run. I just listen to him cause I know that he will always come and find me. Plus, I'm really fast. Then there are sometimes where something really bad happens, but I have a lot of luck. Once, I slipped when we were hiking. I was about to fall off the cliff, but then a random tree branch caught my clothes. It was the only branch that stuck out like that. Still, I like traveling with Caelis. I get to sing as much as possible. That's why I have all this make up and jewelry. It's part of the performance... and I like shiny things. I don't know how my life could get much better. But, I do worry about Caelis sometimes. I feel like he doesn't take care of himself enough, and doesn't let anyone really help him when it comes to dangerous things. I asked him if he could teach me how to use a sword, but he got angry at me. He doesn't want me to touch a weapon. My future? I don't know. I really haven't thought about it. Keep travelling with Caelis I guess. I'm happy with my life right now, so I don't really want things to change. Reason for Joining: She is just following where Caelis goes.
