Yes it's early morning, but as for the season I haven't really thought about it yet. We can go with any season as long as it isn't winter since being in the middle of the ocean during winter nights will give our characters hypothermia and kill them. So yeah go ahead with summer if you want to. 

As for the fog that's surrounding the raft we can keep it up indefinitely or lift it up later on when they start moving. Fog usually is limited to the mornings of cooler months so I'd say we can lift the fog in the afternoon.
