It's always the unicorns that waste their lives (And often the lives of others) in their inane quest to become alicorns. Countless before you have tried and failed to do so and countless more will no doubt raise up to waste their time after you're gone. 

It is very telling that no unicorn, despite all their efforts, have ever managed to become an alicorn. It's even more interesting when you consider that the only pony to ever ascend to alicorn status was a Pegasus.
