Well, right now no one really "knows" who Dark Matter is. Even the guy who chased after him is looking for some human fella, while Dark Matter is an amorphous blob. Certainly strange and dark, but is Serenity really someone who would judge by appearances? At least personality wise Dark Matter is rather affable and doesn't go on insane tangents. He still has all his marbles.
