On the bright side, I now have a pretty awesome mage for a high fantasy story of mine currently in deep hibernation :)
Yeah it's a good character, I normally would have accepted her with open arms.
I feel I should ask about desert kingdoms, if you had any in your mind already or if I could just stick one somewhere ^_^; no big deal if "no" on all accounts.
This is a global, cosmopolitan setting so bringing in something outside the Western spectrum is fine, just make sure you don't get all serious and try to create some unique detailed culture out of a Robert Jordan book. Remember this is light fantasy. I created this game so that I wouldn't be turned emo by the intense dark fantasy I'm GMing in advanced XD. Don't ruin it for me :-P Desert fantasy archetypes means djinns and flying carpets or maybe mummies and jackalheaded henchmen if you want to get all Egyptian with it. It doesn't mean pages of historical and cultural exposition which crush the funny with a sledgehammer.
Albireo
Wow. Yeah, you pretty much nailed the setting and the character is excellent. Very dynamic and completely capable of playing the fool, something I was expecting the mage player to be able to do. The only error I see is that cell phones should be spell phones. It's a general mechanic we'll be using. Lapbooks become spellbooks, electronics become spelltronics, internet becomes aethernet, I-pads become rune pads, texting becomes runing, and html becomes hextml. Stop me if I'm becoming too silly.
