Despite this, the message delivered by the words very much expresses itself in the Aaldoren people—they are obsessed with the righting of wrongs, and put the display of good behaviour in importance over top of selfish clinging to survival. Military Since the fall of Aaaldorenfeald to the first Overlord, the unique fighting units and styles used by the Aaaldoren have gradually withered away, being replaced by the more typical outfits used by most other lords in Lundland. Grindan Osgar, however, determined to revive much of the Aaldoren traditions of old, has reformed House Ogar's war stockpile to use many of the same warrior outfits used by his ancestors, before the rise of Lundland. The names of the units derive from the old Aaldoren tongue, a twisted precursor of the language spoken throughout modern Lundland. Their composition draws some heritage from the Giant armies, but with a particular emphasis on cavalry and ranged units. 1000 Sccyest (Mail Armour, Bow, Horse, Dagger; 37/10) 1000 Feriendema (Mail Armour, Sabre, Horse; 45/10) 3500 Axabroc (Leather Armour, Great Axe; 15/3) 2500 Feorap (Leather Armour, Bow, Dagger; 12/4) 12 Cystbeorn (Plate Armour, Longsword, Lance, Dagger, Crossbow, Horse, Horse Armour; 100/22) 10 War Galleys (480/160) 40 Ballista (25/7) Royal Court Righteous Lord Grindan Osgar, King of the Aaldoren, Defender of Rytael. The House's origin is unique among the lords of Lundland; the Osgars are the direct paternal descendants of a former Giant Chieftain, the Chief of the 'Osgar' Giant clan, from which their House name originates. The clan ruled over a large swath of territory far to the east of modern day Aaldorenfeald, but their homeland was a harsh and destitute place, even compared to the lands owned by other clans. The westward migration of the clan began after an especially harsh winter, when the Osgars found their traditional raid destination to have become just as barren as their homeland. The chieftain at this time, who would become the Osgar's last feral leader, led his people on a long journey westward, abandoning the place of their birth to make a new life for themselves in what would eventually become Aaldorenfeald. The Giants, respecting their Chieftain's decision not to continue their violent traditions on their new neighbours, but still capable fighters, took to aiding in the defence of the predecessors of the Aaldoren people against their former rival clans to the east. The Giants eventually came to use the language of the lands on which they settled, adding some of the vocabulary of their eastern origins to their newly adopted tongue, and in time even intermarrying with the natives of the land. It was the arrival of the Giants as settlers that fast-tracked the cultural departure of the Aaldoren from the other, more similar peoples of the territory that would become Lundland. Besides their cultural contributions and offers of protection, the Giants would also come to introduce Aaldorenfeald's system of political organization. Being that it was no longer culturally suitable for the position of chieftain to be a champion's title, constantly fought over, the first born son of the Osgar Chieftain that had led his people into Aaldorenfeald assumed power in a coup, supported by the native Aaldoren, upon his father's demise. His ascension to power began a trend throughout the lands of the Aaldoren, whereby the sons of the rulers who had earned their ownership of land by sheer might would assume power and formally alter their land's succession laws to become entirely hereditary. While the House of Osgar was the first to begin this practice, and it was with their military might that they assisted the sons of the lords of the Aaldoren in making hereditary succession a unified practice, it is important to note that the Osgars were not, at this time, the rulers of Aaldorenfeald. House Osgar commanded over only a single stretch of land, Hebban, with most of the settled Giants having dispersed throughout Aaldorenfeald rather than settled exclusively in the lands of their former chieftain. While House Osgar exerted considerable influence over the rest of the new Aaldoren lords, they were not yet technically the land's formal rulers. The history of Aalodrenfeald as a politically unified nation-state begins with the nation's first King, the man who melted down the numerous petty Aaldoren lordships into one united kingdom. This founder of the Aaldoren nation was the legendary figure Rytael Osgar, the namesake of the keep in which the King of the Aaldoren resides to this day. Rytael was a just ruler and an honourable and peace loving man, but he had a reputation for crassness, and mercilessness in his dealings with his enemies. He was a man obsessed with justice and extremely ferocious in its pursuit, known to punish the wicked in cruel and terrifying ways to instil a rigid sense of dedication to the law in the Aaldoren people. The most famous of Rytael's exploits surrounds the result of his final military excursion during the Wars of Unification, when the Aaldoren lords aligned with House Osgar united together against the lords favouring the continued independence of the petty lordships. Stories tell that when the last of the petty Aaldoren lords that had refused to submit to Rytael was defeated by him in battle, Rytael had the lord, his household, and his army all executed to the last man. Once slain, their bodies were thrown into a massive, heaping pile of dead flesh, and set ablaze. On the heap of their ashes Rytael began construction of a mighty fortress, named after himself, which was meant to become the unified Kingdom of Aaldorenfeald's capital. It is on the steps of this fortress that Rytael announced the formation of the unified Kingdom of Aaldorenfeald, crowning himself as King of the Aaldoren, which each of the petty Aaldoren lords that had fought with him in the Wars of Unification becoming his vassals. The fortress of Rytael became the new seat of House Osgar, rendering their former seat, Hebban, as a mere secondary possession of the throne. Hebban has from then on been traditionally passed down to the successor of the current Aaldoren king, to serve as the Heir's seat until such a time as he assumes the throne and relocates to Rytael. Having enjoyed many generations of unified statehood, Aaldorenfeald fought fervently against Lundland in the decades of wars that introduced the empire's existence. Lundland was seen as an enemy to the existence of the Aaldoren nation, and as such, House Osgar made themselves vocal and violent opponents of the first Overlord's rise. However, Aaldoren contempt towards other independent non-Aaldoren lords made them a difficult ally to coordinate with, and ultimately left House Osgar isolated. Eventually, towards the last years of the fighting, with an overwhelmingly large army at its doorstep, Aaldorenfeald was forced to yield. Since the incorporation of Aaldorenfeald into Lundland, House Osgar has for the most part only spoken or acted against the interests of the Overlord when such actions were capable of being made without backlash. The Osgars are far from being reliably underhanded; rather than constant hostility, the Lords of House Trisch have generally come to expect quiet obedience from Aaldorenfeald. The other lords of Lundland are not so eager to label the Houses of the land as loyal, though, and to the common people is it known that the Aaldoren are far from the most loyal vassals of House Trisch. House Osgar's rebelliousness is always kept tempered by their caution, allowing them to deal truly decisive blows when they have the opportunity, and quietly subsist when tensions are high, and their actions are being watched.
