“I don’t think anyone could have saved me from her. She was too determined to marry me that it just kinda, well…” He turned his chocolate gaze to his friend giving her a small shrug. “It made me sick. Every day it was ‘when are you going to propose to me?’, ‘When are we going to get married?’, ‘Who are we inviting?’,” His mocking of the valley girl voice that Veronica was known for was wonderful as he went on about the things she would hound him for answers about. “It’s not that I miss her, I really don’t. I just don’t want to have to deal with my mom when she finds out. Especially if Veronica goes bat-shit crazy.” He said in an honest shrug. “I think you women assume we’re deeper than we are. We’re like the shallow end of the pool and you women are the 12 feet deep end. Two different sides of the pool.” A laugh left him as she took the beer from him. “When don’t I want one? I just finished a painful interview today with five old ladies trying to dig for information I had already given them. Plus one attempted to play footsy with me so hard that I’m pretty sure she got a leg cramp because I watched her face change instantly at one point and she buried herself behind her coffee cup.” As soon as she returned; he grabbed her by her wrist and gave her a good yank, pulling her onto his lap. Grinning from ear to ear he brushed some of their away from her face as he tilted his head at her. “My dear Sia, you’ve grown up so much. Such a beautiful… charming young lady with a good head on her shoulders… a wonderful… fun-loving personality… and the whole world in front of her…” His dark brown eyes twinkled with an act of playfulness, his voice dropping into that deep tone when he’d sing a lovey portion of one of his songs. “I can’t believe how much you’ve grown up and changed and became such an amazing person. So beautiful… so sweet… just so… amazing…” As he talked he leaned towards her, his hand still no the small of her back and the other gently let go of her wrist, his face inched closer and closer to hers; the intoxicating mix of the vampire-hormones filling the small space between them. When he said the word amazing, he was nose to nose with her, then… it happened… Jett quickly got his feet, his free arm had scooped underneath her and in a twist, he had her hanging over his left shoulder, her mid-drift resting on his shoulder as her lower hand hung limp against his chest. His large arm was wrapped around her thigh, careful to keep her dress in place and to not move. He knew that if she didn’t hit him for doing this, she’d beat the hell out of him if she thought he was trying to catch a glimpse under her dress. “But sometimes as a strong independent woman, you need to talk to your parents. So come now, let’s get you back to their house so you can tell them ‘Leave me alone I’m a strong independent woman!’ and that should satisfy their need. Now…” He plucked her purse from the table she had put it now and gave it a shake, hearing keys was enough for him and he hung it over his free shoulder. “It’s not my color but it will do.” With that he locked the door behind them and proceeded to carry her down the stairs to where he had parked the car. Once at the car he beeped it open and opened the door before slinging her forward into his arms in a bridal style and placing her in the passenger’s seat. “You may be in a good shape but remember I’m older; I can catch you if you run.” With that and a cheesy Jett-style grin he shut her door and walked around the car, opening and climbing inside, he shut the door behind him, buckled up and started the car. With that he was off towards her parents house.
